After being on lockdown much of Spring of 2020 with people told they can't open their businesses or gather with friends or family they don't live with, they were all of a sudden given the green light to "protest" the George Floyd murder. That was pretty much the only type of "gathering" allowed in California (social gatherings weren't allowed until October (more than 4 months after the BLM riots) and even restricted to outdoors with 3 households max which rules still apply). They insisted that we still have the first amendment right to "protest" in the name of racial justice before we could open up restaurants, salons, or even meet with a friend just to hang out. I think that is what drew such large numbers of people who wouldn't have normally participated to the crowds. Some just craved group interaction and this was the only "acceptable way" to do it. Of course, you have your hoodlums and thugs will riot given any opportunity (not referring to a race but a behavioral type) but those who were on the fence were really pushed over the edge by the lockdowns.

Things are very different in 2021 as most of the U.S. is far more open with Covid cases going down. OTOH, we have a president who is easily controlled by his handlers and if they tell him to endorse the "protests" and Kamala is also on board and leftists states take no action while their police force's hands are tied, I can see it getting just as bad or even worse. But no longer being in lockdown might work in favor of quelling a repeat of late Spring/early summer of 2020.

What do you think?

They will consistently be worse , all the time, until we reach a stage where, inevitably, we elect officials willing to take a no nonsense approach, and treat violent protestors as the enemy combatants they truly are (a/k/a "native" terrorists).

It will be worse. They have had almost a year to review what happened and plan for Floyd 2.0.

Hopefully the normal public from both sides of the aisle can have a plan in place to protect themselves. I think there is more good folks than troublemakers - but if they don't communicate and stay to themselves, then it does nobody any good.

I'm going to say not as bad as 2020 and it was really bad then. The reason being the riots were largely fomented by Democrats and their media to create chaos during the Trump administration, and with Biden in it doesn't serve the purpose.

Dunno. Will folks still get shot by cops every day? When was the last day where a police officer didn't kill someone?

Only if they don’t comply, try to flee, etc...

Happens all the time.

WAPO did an analysis, as of 4-12, just 52 non-whites, 105 whites, shot by police. Quantity unarmed under ten between 157 shot.

I think it could go either way. Depends on how the riots are handled both at a local and national level.

Yeah it depends on how much the democrats national and local encourage and support rioting and I thinking their main motivation to make people discontented with Trump is gone.
