These magazines are not available in theatre anyway - due to the respect for the Muslim traditions

The issue was raised not by a member of Congress, but by family members who frequent the exchanges. The issue has also been pushed my female service members as well.

The shopettes and bx/px system has an opaque covering over the cover of magazines.
I don't know what the problem is. You'd have to move the opaque plastic to see the cover.

Moms / family members / female service members have made some issue of the availability

But it doesn't affect them. That's the point. Playgirl and other "women's" magazines are also available.

If people are so fearful of what their spouse/significant other, or single people might want to do, then they need to look at their own lives.

This is not a military issue. This is a personal issue. These complainers are NOT in the military. They can shop elsewhere. They don't have to go to the segregated area of the magazine rack where these magazines are available. Instead, they want to control what everyone else does because they're obviously lacking in self-control themselves.

It would be better if they would put their energy into bringing the troops home from Iraq or raising their children.

Some are in the military - you are incorrect.

Others are military dependents. They have the right to object.

And the majority of reasonable members of the military family who don't want to control others have the right to keep these control freaks from forcing their demands on the rest of us.

The GOP lawmaker believes the sale of porn on military bases has harmed military members in numerous ways, including "escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes, feeding a base addiction, eroding the family as the primary building block of society, and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad."

I guess the escalating violence and family erosion has nothing to do with a WAR started on LIES that has lasted longer than WW 2! The Republicans make themselves look more like clowns and idiots everyday!

AdultFYI - Georgia Lawmaker Wants a Ban of Porn on Military Bases

I'd bet Larry Craig and/or Mark Foley helped write these up...

Exactly - anyone anti-war is labeled a crazy liberal.

I was just at the BX. I took a photo of the magazines. They are on the top rack, high above a child's eye level, they are nowhere near anything that would interest traditional women or kids and there is a large opaque covering of everything except for the title of the magazine. In fact, the family oriented periodicals are on another aisle, not even facing the extreme (as in sports, also) magazines. Sheesh.

Some people go looking for trouble to create. They'd be better off taking care of their own business and quit minding everyone else's.

And, unfortunately, so much of what happens on military bases unrelated to official duites is controlled by spouses and other family members. While that is normally a good thing (Sgt Jones won't reenlist unless his family is happy).
Is this why, several times when I have put together packages to send to servicemen overseas, the rules stated no Playboys?
I think I sent one of them through Anysoldier.com. I had one of my sons' old Playboys and was going to put it in, but then saw that they were not allowed.
