I used to be more against guns, but seeing how the far-left radicals are trying to overturn democracy vis a one-party rule and silencing all dissent, I changed my mind. The citizens need to be armed.

I am with you. I used to be a proponent of gun control but after a summer of blm rioting and my city being sacked twice, I now love guns. Especially considering police forces have been told to stand aside.
The Russian people were not "massively armed" then as We, The People, are today.
Relatively speaking, yes they were, and this includes the Cossacks, which was a military state, and who took their weapons to the fight along side the Russian army for centuries through WW1.
If anything, "we the people" are massively under armed compared to the military. Back then, the people and the military were pretty comparable.
