I'd say because we still live in fear and the result of 9/11.

Not to mention they've spent their time attacking other countries lately. Though I would assume they've planned something...

If Al Qaeda/Jihadists wanted to REALLY cause troubles here,it would stop going for the 'big splash' attacks that look good and simply start doing what works- blowing up innocent people in malls,stores,on the bus and at movie theaters.

Of course they might be afraid of the backlash...

you're still not making sense. Melee attacks are much easier to defend against than ranged attacks.
