I don't know that it's killing Christmas, but it will certainly hurt the economy there. More stores out of business, more employees laid off, more depression, more suicides... I guess if you are one of the employees let go or one of the owners that has to shut down, then it could kill Christmas for you.
Global and domestic tourism/ hospitality have and will continue to be substantially harmed by Covid.
Gawd, even Sweden shut down their popular ski resorts over their winter and Easter breaks and may very well do it again.
You have to be kidding? New York on of the top 5 for most dead per million. Leadership of New York has failed worse that Trump. Think about that.
Given :
NYC has a population of 8 million.
JFK is the busiest airport for international arrivals and departures. Millions arrived in NYC from the hot spots in Europe before arrivals from some, not all , hot spots were stopped.
NYC is the mostly densely populated city in the US.
NYC has the largest subway system in the US and one of the largest in the world.
Millions from the tri- state area descend on NYC for employment.
NYC is the most multi cultural city in the US where more than 100 languages are spoken.
No shortage of sub cultures did not take Covid risk seriously.
At the time, during its peak, there was an acute shortage of PPE, test kits, iCU beds, ventilators, healthcare workers etc. the states were competing with each other and FEMA fir scare resources.
Treatment was non- existent.
The dead were stored in refrigerated trucks.
And 7 months later, North Dakota, population 762,000 is the hot spot. Fortunately, treatment has evolved and more people are surviving hospitalization than was the case anywhere, 7 months ago. Their challenge is a shortage of hospital beds and healthcare workers. They can’t airlift everyone to Minnesota and Montana.
I know one person who's Grandpa died of Covid-19 symptoms.
ONE.
He was 91 years old and forced into a nursing home by Cuomo.
So miss us with the sanctimonious, feigned concern/outrage.
My count is now an even dozen, including a husband/ wife , early 60’s, tri- athletes with no known conditions. Family continues to be devastated. No clue who or how they were infected.
Nursing homes everywhere are high risk. Seems it was finally figured out it is the employees bringing Covid into the workplace. Finally enough tests to test employees several times a week.
No nursing home was forced to accept/ retain Covid positive guest if they did not have the ability to isolate Covid positives and adequate PPE and protocols. Most nursing homes are private for profit businesses. A substantial number of guests are Medicaid - paid.
During the worst of it there is no question in my mind, MDs were forced to make decisions who lived vs died, given the shortage of beds and healthcare workers and vents and PPE and no real treatment.
The worst was nearly over by the time the Javits Center was converted and the Mercy ship arrived.
My body, my choice affects that one woman. Being careless in the midst of a pandemic can create havoc for countless others. If it just affected the person who decided to ignore the virus that would be one thing. But sadly, it's contagious and deadly in some cases.
Don’t forget that my body my choice effects the baby too
Would have been a lot worse if the precautions that Cuomo took hadn't been taken. Cuomo has been working his ass off to try and mitigate the effects of a pandemic. Meanwhile, Trump is still trying to decide if it's a real thing or not.
Well he did screwed up big time in the beginning of the pandemic that caused a lot of deaths, especially the nursing homes.
Exactly! Cuomo killed 5,000 elderly by moving COVID patients into nursing homes. He has no problem with this......
Whitmer continued to keep Covid Patients in nursing homes using all-building staff for 2 months after the 2nd to last state stopped doing it, 6 months after the experts first warned her not to do it, and 1 months after her own study said not to keep doing it.
The whole time people including scientists urged her to stop. Now Whitmer has the nerve to talk about how she "follows the science" and the Democrat sheep applaud and put her on a pedestal, because she is good at saying "orange man bad."
All these state, county and local government restrictions are about preventing hospital systems and healthcare workers from being overwhelmed.
Unlike POTUS, any POTUS, those who test positive are rarely hospitalized out of an abundance of caution. No one monitors Average Joe’s vitals or oxygen levels. Average Joe will be substantially more deteriorated by the time he is admitted.
Unlike POTUS who had an entire wing at Walter Reed, Average Joe may find himself in a make- shift ICU in a tent on fair grounds or airlifted to a different part of the state or out of state because there are insufficient beds and qualified people to attend to them.
Best guess, when Average Joe survives and is discharged he/ his family have to figure out how to bring him home. Ait lifts are one way rides.
Last thing many state need, right now, is sick out of staters taking up space in hospitals.
I don’t track why the pounce on Cuomo while giving other states a pass when they issue unenforceable orders and then brag about how those unenforceable orders saved lives.
At what cost?
Since you are all up and down this thread justifying Cuomo's lockdown rules; can you tell us what is the cost in lives and dollars from locking down vs. not locking down?
How does this kill Christmas? If it does, you need more culture and tradition.
