The MSM is doing him a huge favor by being so biased, do they even realize that? President Trump is getting a ton of empathy and indignant support from people who may not even like him but can't stand the blatant bias of the MSM. Your average American wants to feel a sense of fairness, an even playing field. When they see that one party is being treated ridiculously unfairly just out of pure hatred (Savannah Guthrie, this is you), they want to root for the underdog. This is just an American thing, maybe a human thing, and it's real and it's happening for the President right now.
The blatant bias also serves to magnify what a terrible candidate Joe Biden is, hence why they have to carry him and coddle him through these things.
Best thing for President Trump to do is to show up, contain his rightful indignation about the gross mistreatment, and be the underdog for a supportive audience.
Trump brings all of this on himself. He lies constantly, interrupts, throws out wild accusations, etc.
1) Start his time every turn by saying "everything Vice President Biden just said is either a lie or nonsense."
2) End his time every turn by saying "and I now yield my time so Vice President Biden can speak more lies and nonsense."
3) Do nothing but smile whenever Biden is speaking.
Done.
See, they won't fact check Biden when he lies, which is virtually every time he speaks, so why would they when Trump calls him out for lying? Free win for Trump.

Exactly. Any leader worth their weight in salt sees a tough question as an opportunity. Only someone who is weak, or who doesn't have a plan would see that as anything else.
If the moderator asked something as biased as "why are you such a bad candidate?" a good debater would take that question and turn it around with facts. Facts are not Trump's friend, that is why he always whines about being treated poorly. He made his own bed.
And the OP's premise is false. The moderator cannot just turn off the mic whenever they want. I was given to understand it was only during opening statements. But if Trump follows the rules that he agreed to, then why would anyone even NEED to turn off his mic? If they tried that, then he wouldn't even have to lie about the bias, it would be there for everyone to see. He has to lie about it, because he has no substance.

My understanding is that after each question, each candidate will get two minutes of uninterrupted speaking time, as they've agreed to. The other candidate's mic will be muted to enforce the rules. Neither should have an issue with this. After they have each spoken, they'll have unmuted discussion time, and the moderator is to keep them to roughly equal amounts of time before the next question.
He needs to stay calm and let Biden talk himself into a mess. It hasn't happened in any of the debates yet, so not a good plan.
He needs to ask Biden about his sons involvement and payoffs by foreign powers while using his Dad's influence and position to secure millions that were then funneled back to the Biden family. Biden will deny it and point out Republican led Senate committee closed it's investigation finding no evidence of improper influence or wrongdoing by the former vice president
He needs to ask Biden about his plans to increase taxes by repealing his tax cuts. Biden will say he will only increase taxes on the wealthy
He needs to ask Biden about Packing the Court and press him for an answer. Biden will say he hasn't decided and dodge the question
He needs to ask Biden about his stance on banning fossil fuels. Biden will say he doesn't want to ban fossil fuels
He needs to ask Biden about his plans to rewrite the Second amendment and to seize guns from the law abiding while doing very little about criminals that use guns in their crimes. Biden will say he has no plans to rewrite the 2nd amendment and point out he's a gun owner
He needs to ask Biden about his plan for Illegal Aliens and his pledge to give amnesty to 11 million of them plus free healthcare for the estimated 11 million more that are in the country. Biden will say those are false distortions of his actual plan
He needs to ask him about the Democrat rush towards socialism. Biden will say he's no socialist and doesn't support a socialist system
He should just stay home. Early voting has been a steady stream of people plunging a knife into the stinking carcass of the Trump administration. It is a cathartic and cleansing experience. They are smiling when they come out. Trump cannot do anything to save himself at this point.
That is one hell of a statement to be making.

Trump has great ideas, he has been a good President that could be great but boy he needs some help in getting his point across sometimes.
I think he should be practicing his eye rolls and fake laugh for when Biden is answering and lying.
He should also plan at least one time when he stares right at the camera and asks us to ask ourselves "Joe has had 47 years in politics, 8 as VP, what has he done for you? what has the Democrat party done for you?" and then zip it..
I am the classic undecided and will chose to vote against one of them in the voting booth, no diff than 2016.
I have no intention of watching the theatre of debate unless there is increased certainty the fly will re-emerge.
