There are risks with any vaccine. I was just a new doc in 1976 when we had the Swine Flu vaccine fiasco but no epidemic. With a vaccine for covid 19 despite some unknown risks, we will have plenty of takers early on. Especially those with high risks for the virus like advanced age, extended care facilities workers and patients, all sorts of HC workers, and those with obesity, diabetes and hypertension. If there are too many anti-vaxxers it will take longer to get to a safe enough herd immunity level in the general population. But one key point will be to focus on those with high risks.
I think there is perhaps some sort of law in-place where the govt cannot challenge price of prescription medication. Big Pharma names their own price as to whatever they want, and that's the end of it.
And this is why Pharma merges happen. Both companies merge and shake hands to kill the price competition between themselves for the same medication.

You must be referring to Part D where Medicare is not allowed to bargain on drug prices.
With stocks continuing to power higher on elevated hopes for a vaccine by the end of the year, executives from five major drugmakers are testifying Tuesday before a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee panel. The executives will testify about their high-stakes efforts to develop a vaccine. Lawmakers are expected to grill them about plans to develop and distribute the vaccines.
The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on Energy and Commerce is hosting the hearing. The House Committee on Energy and Commerce is led by Chairman Rep. Frank Pallone, and the subcommittee is led by Rep. Diana DeGette.
It will be interesting that the vaccine most likely will not be distributed widely until the next president is elected. I wonder what if any changed to the cost of the vaccine will be. While I'm sure every American will be able to get the vaccine with little cost equal to the flu shot cost $10-20 at most the question will be is the difference going to be picked up by the tax payer.
CEO's are going to just answer all these questions with generic answers anyway.
If nobody died or got very sick during the test trials, I'd want it when it's ready to be released to the public.
