I suspect one outcome of this virus will be increased calls for medical communism, proof of vaccination, biometric ID's. The watermelons ( green on the outside, commie red on the inside) will make the transition smoothly. Yep.

So they'll ditch the current socialists for a more agreeable set of socialists? Then they'll claim victory for the proletariat.

Well, that is the American way.

*shrug*

Andrew Yang's campaign was all about telling people that they were more important than money ... it didn't work.

This video is a major departure from the usual content on my channel, but I think it's necessary. This particular moment in American and world history demands that we all take an honest look at the trajectory of the United States of America. The current system is untenable and the Coronavirus pandemic has laid bare how truly ill-prepared the country is to protect its citizens. When corporations and the ultra-wealthy are the primary concern of those in power, the majority will suffer. This video is my attempt to contribute some small amount to the national conversation about what America is, and what it needs to become.
I do have some major issues with the way this guy frames our economic system.

He oversimplifies and talks in vague generalities. I mean he actually says, "There is no such thing as a good billionaire." What the heck does that even mean?

Bill Gates is easily one of the most informed non-scientists on pandemics I have ever heard speak. He has also done a hell of lot to fund health initiatives all over the globe.

Would it be fair to say that all poor people are bad or lazy or criminals? I would call B.S. on that just as I call B.S. on this guy's broad strokes about billionaires. It is ideological spin in my view.

The other crazy statement the guy makes is, "Capitalism is the root of all evil." He sounds a bit like a guy who took on class on political theory from a radical professor and that is all he knows about the world. If he thinks capitalism is so terrible how about going to smog infested Bejing or be a "worker" in Cuba.

Unfortunately, in these polarized political times the shrill voices on the far left and right have the megaphone when reality is far more nuanced than either side can admit.

This guy has a dangerous ideological blind spot just as I think those on the far right do. The left needs to better appreciate the role of capitalism in producing abundance. The right needs to square up to the unyielding fact of bad luck and the indispensable role safety nets in insuring people against bad luck, bad health, etc.

Some people on the far left like the guy in the clip and Bernie Sanders seem not to know or care that today’s model "social democracies" like Denmark, etc. also boast model capitalist economies that are in many ways more economically laissez-faire than the supposedly wickedly capitalist American system.
