Congratulations to her, but let's just say that what she is promising (end corruption, help the down and out), has been promised by many democratic politicians in that city. And we all know how that goes.
Chicago politics is synonymous with corruption, has been that way even before the 20th century.
Chicago became the largest American city ever to elect a black woman as its mayor as voters on Tuesday chose Lori Lightfoot, a former prosecutor, to replace Rahm Emanuel. When she takes office in May, Ms. Lightfoot also will be the city’s first openly gay mayor.
This is evidence that the Chicago machine is dying. Both Lightfoot and Preckwinkle were protest candidates (Bill Daley was the machine candidate). And of the two non-machine candidates, the protestier one won the runoff. Preckwinkle had been county board chair and was a known quantity.
We can look forward to much social justice nonsense and maybe a riot or two. Or three.
