So, you're admitting the US is no longer anything resembling libertarian. How long ago was it last anything resembling what you think it should be? 100 years ago? 150 years ago? In my book it's at least 100 years ago that the US was anything resembling libertarian. That ship sailed long ago and it's never going to come back, so you might as well get used to it and deal with it. You might also consider the possibility that there's a darn good reason why that ship sailed so very long ago.

GOOD! Then we can turn the US into something resembling Norway and Sweden, and we won't be "socialist." Problem solved!

When’s the last time I started a thread under the headline “tax cuts don’t work” or “Republicans are Trump sycophants.”

Never. These things are so obvious and so trite that making a thread would be stupidly redundant.

Isn't it frustrating that rational thought needs to be explained?

Honestly, I had more rational arguments with my children when they were pre-teen than with some "adults " in here.

The video fails in the first 5 seconds. If you do not understand the argument or choose to misrepresent the argument, you can't make a good argument.

So what happens when the billionaires leave the country and abscond with their wealth, industry, and jobs? Think it won't happen? Since France's Macron instituted a wealth tax there, French millionaires have been leaving the country like rats deserting a sinking ship. Leftists say they were just never patriotic to begin with. LOL.

Of course, the mind of the doctrinaire socialist screams, "Freeze the accounts! Confiscate the assets! Seize the industries!" To them, that money doesn't belong to the billionaire, it belongs to the collective. Couple that desire with a huge helping of self-righteousness masquerading as morality, and boom, you have a deluded justification to steal anything you want. It's all for the good of the people of course!

And they won't just be after money. Oh no. They want your future. Socialists are going to dictate what you can be, how far you can go. Want to go to college? Well, only if you pass these state tests. Otherwise, you can be a butcher's assistant (A real example!). I've seen it in action. And remember what happened when Obamacare was passed? Congress exempted themselves from it! Democrats and Republicans alike. Oh socialism is going to be chock full of exemptions. That's not corruption you see. That's just necessary adjustments to the order of things to ensure the smooth operation of the peoples' government. You know, you might get bumped out of line for your needed operation to make way for someone your overlords have determined has a greater need. They make that decision. You abide. At least with capitalism, money talks. With socialism, you have no voice. You get what the government says is your "fair share". Good luck with that.

I always laugh when socialists suggest that people who espouse their values are above corruption. Somehow, they have risen above the scourge of the human condition! It's like socialist Scientology. If you become progressive enough, you will eventually be able to levitate like a god while allocating confiscated resources with the wisdom of Solomon.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/aid-...ry?id=60923491

"A convoy carrying American humanitarian aid arrived at the Colombia-Venezuela border on Thursday as the U.S. and Venezuela's interim president Juan Guaido pressure President Nicolas Maduro to let the aid in and leave power.
Nine trucks in total drove into the border city Cucuta, but it will remain on the Colombia side for the time being after Maduro used a tanker, two shipping containers and some fencing to block the highway on the Tienditas Bridge and deployed troops to guard them."

You want to tell us how wonderful socialism is again?

It's really sad some people don't read, and thus, keep repeating their mistake. But of course they do that on purpose. It's called "willful ignorance."

The cons here like to tell everyone that it's not good to turn the US or any US state into something socialist. Like, Venezuela.

Well, OK. But nobody wants to turn anything into another Venezuela anyway.

What many US liberals want is something more like just about anything in Western Europe. Or Canada.

Are Europe and Canada failures, like Venezuela? Hardly.

So why do cons keep starting threads like this?

Because the cons like to give us straw men and tell everybody that the liberals want to turn the US into something that liberals don't want to turn the US into. It's a classic case of fear mongering.

So, let's try this again: Liberals want to turn the US into something more like Canada or Western Europe, not Venezuela.

Got it?
