We are Socialists, enemies, mortal enemies of the present capitalist economic system with its exploitation of the economically weak, with its injustice in wages, with its immoral evaluation of individuals according to wealth and money instead of responsibility and achievement, and we are determined under all circumstances to abolish this system!
Mixed? Do they have lot of people broke due to debt or mounting medical bills or student debt??
USA is near perfect, but I would also like to see reforms in those areas.
They actually do have problems with student loan debt. While tuition is free, students' living expenses are not. They take out student loans to pay for those expenses (housing, food, clothing, etc.).
Quote:
"While high tuition costs partly account for high student debt, free tuition does not necessarily mean students graduate without debt. Even in countries with free tuition, students are largely responsible for covering living costs and fees. In tuition-free Sweden, for example, students borrow money as frequently as American students do – about 70 percent have student loans – and Swedish students graduate with about $20,000 in debt."
What you’re not understanding is that tens of millions of us will opt-out of your communist system. We will barter if we have to we are not giving up control of our lives to the government.
Meat and fish salted to preserve it during the winter?
Have you completely lost it? We are not living in the 1800s..
I can walk down to the tiniest local shop right now, and buy fresh fruits, strawberries, dates, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, apples, pears, blah blah blah...
We even have refrigerators.. *GASP*
You guys finally got refrigerators - welcome to the 21st century.
Give me a break about fresh fruits and vegetables, especially in winter. Yes you might find iit in Oslo and Bergen but it will be ridiculously expensive. And if you go to upper Norway try getting some fresh mangos - all you will be getting is wrinkled up things that they try to pass off as a mango at ridiculous prices.
At the end of the day, enjoy Norway. As I said I don't envy you or have any plans to settle there as you have no plans to settle in USA. We both like where we are. Just don't become boorish.
From an article I just found on 1st page google search

A lot of vegetables in Norway are absurdly expensive – maybe wait until you’re back home to satisfy that avocado craving.

Wrong. They will murder you if you try to opt out.
In my previous communist/socialist country, bartering was illegal and strictly forbidden.
