Heck, don’t know if it’s a wall or a fence let alone how high, thick or composition.

Don’t know one time cost. Don’t know ongoing costs. Don’t know replacement costs because sooner or later everything wears out.

Don’t know how much private land will need to be acquired by Eminent Domain. Don’t know the cost associated with acquiring land, including appeals and outcomes.
Don't feel bad. No one seems to know any of that. Trump has had two years to get this through congress, but he doesn't even know if it's a concrete wall or steel slats yet. I woudn't be too surprised if he tries to tell us it will be "invisible fencing" by the time it's through.

We definitely need strong border security to keep out illegal aliens.

And we should probably move to a single-payer health care system, eventually.

Not a fair trade, from a value perspective. How much does single payer healthcare cost per year? How much would a wall cost per year?

I rest my case.

No. I would support single payer healthcare instead of the stupid wall. That, at least, will have direct benefit to Americans. The wall is a vanity project--a monument to a colossal ego that solves nothing.

I'd give a TRILLION to border security for full universal health care......

As as aside, it's not because it would help me or my family. We have plenty. But I feel that the good it would do for our society would be immeasurable. Happiness of the People and all that.

As we all know, there is a LOT of wasted money - 5 Trillion or so on wars of choice that did little or no good (or worse). I don't care much about a little wasted money. I'm a big picture guy.

Bring it on. A big wall - and spend a Trillion so we can pay the people well for their land and maintain it and also make it friendly to the environment. Build Solar Panels into it.

But we are, of course, fantasizing. Putting these two issues in a single sentence is a great disservice - like asking if I would support a ban on chewing gun if America invested much more into gun safety and background checks.

Absolutely

This left-independent would love to see that deal. But it'll never happen. The ruling class WANTS cheap labor from illegal immigration. Trump's wall is a distraction that they don't particularly want.

This, exactly. All the prototypes failed. Every single one of them. What exactly is this new plan of his? Where are the blueprints? Let's see some details.

Why should we commit billions of dollars when there is nothing concrete to put it towards?

It makes Trump's angry, racist base happy and in 1959 err...2019, they are the only people who matter in this country. Truly despicable era we are living through. I don't see how it can get much worse but I'm sure it's getting much worse before it gets better.

I am not a liberal but I would trade that.

Single payer can't happen until money is removed from the equation. The insurance and big pharma lobbyists have to be abolished.
