Can't win, resort to the archaic electoral college which was created to placate the slave owners in the southern states. Wouldn't want to have a president who actually won the popular vote, now would we? But for the electoral college and gerrymandering, the republicans would never "win" any elections at all.
We've been "resorting" to it every election since 1804. Seems to work fine.
What most don't realize about the election process for President of the United States, is that it looks like a single election with 1 winner. In fact it is 50 state elections on which person that states would like to see as president.
Those totals are added up and a winner is declared. The electoral college gives each state a fair chance at electing a President.
The House election that was just held back in November is based on state population, where the Senate is based on two electors from each state.
Archaic rules that no longer make sense need to be relegated to the dustbin of history. One person...one vote. The popular vote should determine the outcome. No other nation has this kind of nonsensical system.

This is the reason it makes plenty of sense since we are a republic of states, unlike any other country.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced two bills on Thursday, one to eliminate the electoral college and the other to prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves or their family members.
I agree with the second part. Why should a criminal organization like Individual 1 and his mob family get to slime their way out of justice? They shouldn't be immune from being prosecuted like everyone else. This is the first time America has to take a serious look at this issue.
This is just the first step in the re-birth of justice in this country, after it's been under siege for two years.

Exactly Reedwood66, it keeps 4 or 5 states with huge population from controlling every election.
They did win so they can change the rules.
