A "base" that would risk the stability of the entire American economy (let alone almost a million workers), to get what it wants. And the man that "base" voted for said that Mexico would pay for this wall. That statement meas that man lied not only to his opponents, but his own base that voted for him! But that base still supports him and this wall, for an immigration "problem" every data and expert says the number of illegals are down!

No demands of a "base" should be absolute!

I have posted a link how Trump plans for Mexico to pay for the wall but it's involuntarily so it's not going to happen in a short period of time. So no, there was no lie. In the meantime we need to get the wall started. Why are you complaining about the costs anyway since the wall will only be $25 billion to build while illegal aliens cost us over $100 billion a year? Sounds like a win-win to me.

There are still thousands crossing our border illegally every month. If crossings are down then that is irrelevant to that fact.

Trump has turned the "wall" into a symbol of bigotry and intolerance. The majority of Americans don't want it because of that and the Democrats are not going to give the Klan and Friends a win on this. Trump and the GOP are going to pay a heavy price as this shutdown continues. It is time to accept reality, override Trump and move on.

This shutdown will end badly for tRump and his Pub lickspittles.

"The public generally is more apt to blame the President, with 55% saying he is more responsible for the shutdown than are Democrats in Congress, while 32% say the blame rests mostly with the Democrats."

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/13/polit...ump/index.html

As bad as the numbers are now, they'll only get worse from here on.

Govt shutdown = GOP specialty

Recent polling reveals Trump's self destructive shutdown is taking its toll.

The Quinnipiac Poll released yesterday, like other recent surveys, finds Trump is losing the battle for public opinion.

Voters support a Democratic plan to reopen the government by a 63 percent to 30 percent margin. “Every party, gender, education, age and racial group supports this idea except Republicans, who are opposed 52 - 39 percent.”

Voters oppose a wall (55/43 percent)

Voters oppose holding the government hostage to get a wall (63/32 percent).

Voters blame Trump and the Republicans (56/36 percent).

Voters don’t want him to use emergency powers (65/32 percent).

Voters are aligned (61/32 percent) with the Democrats' position to fund more security but not the wall.

Voters didn’t believe Trump told the truth in the Oval Office (“President Trump’s TV address to the nation last week:
‘mostly misleading,’ 49 percent of American voters say.
32 percent say it was ‘mostly accurate.’ …
American voters believed Pelosi/Schumer more than Trump 46 - 36 percent;including 48 - 33 percent of independent voters”)
Voters who overwhelming reject the notion that immigrants commit more crimes (63/29 percent),
Voters who overwhelmingly believe immigrants are good for America (73/16 percent).

Wall:
59 - 40 percent [say the wall] is not a good use of taxpayer dollars.
55 - 43 percent say the wall would not make the U.S. safer.
59 - 40 percent that the wall is not necessary to protect the border').

These criminal aliens agree with you.

Quote:
The term “criminal alien” refers to aliens who have been convicted of one or more crimes, whether in the United States or abroad, prior to interdiction by the U.S. Border Patrol; it does not include convictions for conduct that is not deemed criminal by the United States. Arrests of criminal aliens are a subset of total apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol.

This has probably already been asked, but I will again...Why does the federal government have nonessential positions in the first place? Anyone nonessential can go out and get a real job in the private sector. I have no sympathy.

Because the idea that illegals cost us 100 billion a year is a big fat debunked lie

President Trump says he rejected plan to reopen the government to negotiate border wall
Speaking with reporters as he was en route to a speech before the American Farm Bureau Federation’s convention in New Orleans, Trump continued to blame the Democrats even though no new negotiations have been scheduled since he walked out of a session on Wednesday.

Trump said he rejected a plan from Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., because he wants a permanent fix to the border security issue, including $5.7 billion for a U.S.-Mexico border wall. Graham's plan would reopen the government for three weeks while the two sides continued negotiating.

Non-essential is a Federal Labpr Standards term for work that is not critical on a day to day basis but non-the less important for the running of the government. Many lawyers in agencies are deemed "non-essential" but save the taxpayers millions each year defending the government in lawsuits and by crafting agreements to keep it running effectively. Statisticians such as farm forecasters among others are jobs many depend on that have now been iced, making many farmers potentially suffer. There are countless positions like this in the govt..

To pay for outside counsel in the case of a lawyer would cost countless millions more than to have such employees on staff, saving the taxpayer, just like a corporation. These workers work loads are piling up at the moment and costing the taxpayers while they are away. I have no sympathy for the ignorant like yourself who are too lazy and biased to know how things work. Shame on the ignorant of this nation.
