I guess some rich and powerful folks don't believe in the concept of "equal representation under the law". They want to rise ABOVE the law.
They worked all of their lives to get where they are right now, by screwing over the poor and throwing their OWN friends and relatives under the bus. tRump is only one example, but he is perhaps the most damning example.
Interestingly, while the bulk of high-ranking politicians are dishonest crooks and classist sociopaths, the few that aren't always seem to get the harshest treatment. Both parties, and their devotees, have an irrational fear or hatred of Senator Bernie Sanders and his ilk. And it's not just Bernie. They want to silence all voices that object to the status quo, like Cortez and Nader. O'Rourke is also getting the "mean eye" from the same folks who are running our society to the ground.
This country was built on the concept of "Liberty and justice for all", not "endless prosperity for the 1% and utter misery for the rest of us".
"Liberty and justice for all" is a phrase lost in the twisted minds of predatory corporate thugs and their apologists. Like Billy Hayes said in the movie Midnight Express, "The concept of a society is based on the quality of mercy. The sense of fair play and justice. But I guess that's like asking a bear to sh*t in a toilet". I suppose this means that Corporate America is anti-America?
