I think in the future other NATO countries will spend money to increase their defense instead of leaning on the US. But in the meantime they are learning that depending on another country to do this can get scary when they arent the stable friend you expected

The Trade deals with China was done by "America people" RUSHING to China, thinking it had a new slave labor pool, and they carted off everything they could in pursuit of it. They thought the Chinese to be below them, and thought they could control and manipulate Industry from the lands of China. The looking down on Chinese, backfired, because the Chinese let them bring the industry, they even let them run much of it, and the Chinese "used" the same Americans to set up all the export avenues. Then, when the Chinese saw that all systems were "go"... they structurally, dismissed the American -white men from the head of the companies, and Chinese began to expand in the creation of their own companies, using the same money, American -white men willing brought to their lands and gave to them, pennies at a time, but the Chinese were smarter, "they saved those pennies and turned them into dollars". But the same Americans -white men who brought the industry and turned over the pennies which became dollars for the Chinese, were so greed stricken by their windfall profits, until they were blind to what they had done or what they were doing. The Chinese managed their people and their affairs, while Americans partied like mob bosses, thinking they'd dominated China and got slave wage labor forever.
Then, came the computer!!!! China learned it well, and they began to "manage their own affairs, business and finances, and as they did, they removed more of the Americans from their companies, and expanded the creation of more of their own companies run by Chinese.
American's became even more greed driven and blinded themselves even more, and began to seek out bringing even more commodities production to China, and anything that was functioning in American Industry, the greedy Americans -white men began to go in desperate spins to find out what else they could move to China. Then came the realization, that China now produced the bulk of everything American utilize in the home, business, parts for industry, and materials for building, and even food by products.
I say, American -white men, because they were/are the group that headed the companies and industry, which took everything to China. Then they began to "sell anything and everything remaining" that they could to the Chinese, what they could not sell, they dismantled and crashed it as they set out to sell off the parts, and resulted to destroy every legacy industry they could find to dismantle and crash.
Now, America can't even build a house without Chinese Imported Products, the average home is now filled with Chinese Products, Computers and every form of Electronic Gadget is not produced in China.
America can't compete, because American -white men still to this day, REFUSE to invest in American Business and Industry... all they want to do is "play stock spin games", and "financial game manipulations upon and against the American general public. The tax give away by Trump, resulted to see these same wealthy -white men, buy back stock to increase the value of their person net worth, and hide money in any kind of offshore shell company they can. They got that $1.X Trillion dollars, and had absolutely No Mandate, to REINVEST in American business and Industry !!!!
The Chinese did not do anything to America, except follow the continuance of what the American -white men set into motion and made assurance that the motion would continue.
What we see today is China has invested in its Infrastructure, Its own industry, and its own people, it has uplifted more than 400 million out of poverty, and it has set out around the globe to build and make Cooperative Agreements, of "Mutual Benefit" with every country it chose to make Trade and Development Agreements with, and it set up the AIIB, (Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank) to assure that the participants all work together for a common cause.
America's problems stem from the America Agenda, it did not just help countries because of pure good will, it was done with the caveat that America could influence commerce, political agenda and gain reduced cost any time it decided it wanted to apply pressure to seek out concessions.
But, again, other nations got "the computer too", and they could evaluate themselves and manage their own affairs, and they become to have stronger economies, because American took them pennies, and they turned those pennies into dollars and build their system to stand as independents.
Many of these Countries are willing to talk, but not at the expense of giving over "influence control" to America, and not at an allowance of giving over any access and means to for America to have political influence in their respective countries.
We should have learned something from the fall of the British Empire, which is... how to cooperate with a mutual benefit. Even when the Revolution took place, as American established its Declaration of Independence, the Europeans knew and said, that it is important that beyond the hostilities and acts of war, that it was of utmost importance to maintain good trade agreements. When the Revolutionary War was over, the work of Europeans focused on Trade and Diplomatic Relations.
They did the same thing when they returned control back to the nations they once dominated over.
America's problem is it can't get over The Delusion of American White Men Superiority Complex;, it can't even get of that ignorance even upon America soil, because it still harbors anguish because it can't have the segregationist policies that disenfranchise blacks, and economically it can't get over the madness of economically disenfranchising the poor whites, and promoting conflict between black and whites, as a tool it has long used to keep wages low for the Average Working American.
IF ever the working poor and poor whites figure it out, and accept what has been done to them, by the wealthy white men, who want to keep dominant power and wealth to and among themselves, at the expense of decimating the lives of poor whites, working poor whites, women and minorities... by the use of Racism to keep the people in constant turmoil, while the wealthy now count their money, not in $millions, but in 10's, 100's and $Billions, while the minimum wage still is pegged at $7.xx.... which is the equivalent of what it cost to basically house and feed a slave, in substandard condition and limited ability to economically and physically move freely about.
This is the historical damage that systems like Slavery and Indentured Servititude has left upon the American landscape, which is fed with every type of race based madness, to ensure the people don't come together and take back power from the wealthy, and do not take back the political control of their lives from the dictations and dominance by the wealthy.
It's not complicated to understand these dynamic's... the problem is... when will American General Population of Poor and Working Poor White people as a whole come to learn and understand what has been done to them and us.
Black people throughout American has demonstrated they will work with white people, and the only thing black people have ever ask of white people, is to respect "human equality of person and individual" and respect the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution and Abandon Racist Aggression's. Black people have tired over and over to show to the working poor and poor white people, that he is not the enemy, and he is not the cause of creating economic madness, that it is the wealthy white men, who DO NOT want to give over control to "to the general population of working poor and poor whites and minorities and women in this American society.
When the working poor and poor white people awaken and see that Political Control is Dominated by Wealthy White Men, who have bought and paid for control over the Politicians, and that gives them Control Over the Governance of the People, where the focus is all about, the wealthy maintaining Control over the Nation and its People.
One a daily basis, the average white person, is not stomping around trying to be racist, they want to make a living, but they are continually fed mis-information and having racial madness pushed to them as a blinding light... until they can't see, it is not the black people, it is not the Mexicans, it is not any ethnic non white people who make the craziness... It is promoted and created and thrust upon society, by the wealthy whites, who "DO NOT WANT TO RELINQUISH POWER', to the people, to govern themselves, and retain and sustain the systems that protect and assure opportunity for all.
In American, the bulk beneficiaries of public service is utilized by white people at very high rates, the government grants are given to wealthy white men and their companies, and in the grant programs that the government established these programs have their resources directed through the hands of wealthy and well to do white people. The move is so devastating, that now even our own Military forces, is trying to be overtaken by the pursuit of wealthy white men, who want to drain the money to their pockets by promoting the madness of "soldier for hire programs" to fight as if they are the guardians of America.
These are simple frameworks that far too many white people refuse to face such truth, beause of the long history of how Jim Crow policies impact the concepts, we today, are only 2-3 generations away from Jim Crow, which means many white people still have living parents and grandparents who were raised and groom and fed the Jim Crow Ideals. Those ideas are the very same ideals that were of design to keep them being the working poor and dire poor, while promoting conflict between the races... WHILE the wealthy White Men have continued to fleece this nations and its people. With Spike and Crash games, while they take back any gains the people make economically, and the wealthy white who do not want any penny of their tax money to help any poor whites, and minorities...
The problem is the devastation the wealthy have done to the masses in the aim to keep wages low, and the wealthy do that by feeding malice driven fiction to promote racial dissension as a guarantee that, wealthy flows back to the hands of the wealthy!!!
All America needs is for the general white society to truly understand that and unite with all multicultural american people, without the seeking or wanting to have white privilege, but; to want by their acts and stand to deman "equality for all".. When that comes to be the mentality in this nation, The people will regain the power in this nation, and the wealthy will not have the power to dominate and dictate over the masses.
It truly bothers me when I see broken down and devastated black people, white people and black kids and white kids and black young people and white young people caught and stuck in the cycle of impoverished conditions, and unable to find paying jobs that give them the means to live a quality standard of life. While all we hear about is how many $BILLION of Profit some company has made, and how many people are Billionaires and How many Billions they are worth.... While I watch America become an expanding ghetto from one Coast to the Next.
Something Foreign Nations learned about the "General American Public"... came to see the average American stood up for the work place condition to void out child labor and sweat shop condition, and the Chinese general population respects and appreciate that, and they are thankful to American general population for that stand.
But they also learn, it was never the general population of American people who created and supported the sweat shop and child labor, it was the "white wealthy" who came first expecting labor by any means with any conditions being acceptable, as long as they got cheap labor.
We as people have to understand the mindset of the wealthy industrialist and commercial wealthy entities. They see "us", the general population as being "EXPENDABLE" and replaceable being, as if we are simply parts in a machine that provides wealth to the wealthy, nothing more. They don't care if they get an expendable body, on American Soil or Chinese Soil or any other Nations Soil... all they want is "cheap labor"...
In their pursuit of Cheap Labor, they have destroyed the middle class, and destroyed the general standing as to "quality of life" for the average America Citizen as person and individual. (This is why people are so frustrated- they are buried in the ashes from the burned and burning of industry that litters the landscape and destroyed the jobs, they are frustrated that the greed that leads and direct politicians, (especially in the republican ranks who is the party of big business and industry), that puts business ahead of people, and will decimate the people to pander to business and even give the business money that belongs to care and servicing the people and the communities.)!!!! Trump can't fix that, because he's already demonstrated that he favors the wealthy with the Tax Give Away, and he told the people, he did not trust anyone but the wealthy to be a part of his Administration. Which means the wealthy have direct access to destroy, dismantle and push policy that only benefits the wealthy and attack any department and division of the government that looks out for the better interest of general population of the people. Sadly... the Republican constituency can't see it!!!
This is absolutely no different than how the historical past, saw poor whites as being "replaceable" and disposable"... slave were seen as being purely disposable. This is because the wealthy were/are only concerned with keeping labor cost low and pursing profit at any cost to american and american citizen population, they did not care that their lust for gain, destroyed cities, rural areas and left the people with nothing but circles of despair... they did not and do not care how the working poor and poor whites live, and most certainly no care of how minorities lived... they cared only about how they live among their circle of the wealthy and how much profit they can claim among themselves and for their individual self.
When people come to terms and actually realize this and accept the truth they see. Then, they can no longer be driven into madness by playing racism's games, because they will find out, racism's game stand to inflict as much damage upon the racist as it does to the people racism is targeted to attack.
When the working poor and poor white come together with working poor and poor blacks and others, THEN ... American will rise again, but it can only do so... when it is for and about the people, and done by the unity of the people.
At some point in time, sadly it must be in the future, because people today, are blinded by the cycles and spins of drama, which as and is demonstrated by the people who follow the current day ideology and agenda of Republican System.

OP: Please do not confuse Donald Trump with "America". He represents none of our traditional values, and patriotic Americans are doing their best to alleviate his dire influence and remove him from office legally.

Trump is USA. He is president and by virtue of that fact is the personification of the USA, keeper of the button, and veto-empowered man surrounded only by minds who don't disagree with him. There is no reliable compass without competing views.
So many red flags with Trump's campaign so many warnings. America is one big ostrich.
