It's actually not a bad move, as straws aren't recyclable.

I need to find a company that makes paper straws, I remember hearing that there is only one of them.

It's probably the least expensive coffee shop in my town, save for maybe one local joint.
I buy two pounds of Costco coffee beans roasted by starbucks for $12, $6 a pound, which makes about 60 cups of coffee. 20 cents a cup. My automatic coffee maker grinds the fresh beans for a brewed pot of coffee every morning at the time I set. My cup of coffee is fresh brewed when I wake up. as an added bonus, I don't have to wait in a line or drink from a paper cup.

Get off my lawn!

A lot of people go to Starbucks. They are always busy. Thanks for participating.

Also, not full of hippies. Mainly yuppys and soccer moms.

There is no straw problem and if Starbucks really wanted to reduce waste they'd encourage customers to provide their own containers.

Can they not make biodegradable straws? As a kid we used some kind of paper straws.

Amazon sells all kinds of paper straws and re-useable stainless steal sets of straws to fit various drinks. I made the switch to stainless in the spring and so are a lot of other people based on how easy they are to buy now. Starbucks new tops will still allow for a straw and they will be available for those who ask. But they will be getting the biodegradable straws. If you live by an large body of water where we see straws on beaches and floating around on the water maybe this issue is taken more sincerely than those of you who don't. Over 500 millions straws are used in the USA every DAY. I just don't get why some people are so resistance to such a minor changes that will help reduce trash. Plastic draws haven't really been around that long. The paper straw did a slow death in the '60s.

They do that by giving you 10 cents off if you bring your own cup and they also sell re-usable sets for their various blended drinks. You use it, you save money.

Why are people so critical of incremental improvements? Can't just wave a magic wand and erase the problem entirely. But this is a little step in the right direction.

Lefties are always trying to force their lifestyle on others. Buncha control freaks. I know nobody is forced to go to Starbucks. It's still an attempt to impose the "no straw" lifestyle on others. I think there are even some far lefty cities that have banned plastic straws outright or are considering doing so.

And then there's this. Reducing such waste is a good thing, flat out, no political agenda needed. But snowflakes gotta cry about any sort of change from how it was when they grew up.

If it makes economic sense sure, if it doesn't, the efforts themselves are wasteful.
FWIW Most of the plastic waste in the waterways comes from socialist asian countries.

Starbucks will serve your coffee in a mug if you ask for it in many places & will use your own cup if you ask.
