Is this for real? We are paying more for gas now than ever before, are they nuts to want to raise taxes-now? (They say to pay for roads and bridges)What an outrage! We are in trouble people! What will they do next? When are we going to fight back?

They want to tax the gas companies 18 billion, which would just cause the price of gas to go up. It's what democrats and liberals do.

I don't mind them taxing gas, but not for roads and bridges. Mass transit and trains, sure but not roads.

Maybe eventually people will start trading those Hummers for hybrids.

I now live 2 miles from my job so gas prices don't affect me like they used to when I lived 40 miles. The biggest problem with a gas tax is it will further cut into disposable income making the recession deeper. Most people aren't going to give up their Hummers and McMansions 90 miles from their workplace that easily. They will cut into other spending until they can't anymore.

And in actuality they will probably not be able to sell those McMansions 90 miles away to move closer.

They must be crazy to be thinking of a tax on top of the already high prices.

Therefore they will have to forclose which will worsen the housing crisis. The Democrats couldn't be talking about this at a worse time. It would be different if the economy was booming, people's jobs were secure, and they had fat to live off of for a while, but right now the economy is down to skin and bones. Raising the gas tax now would be a death blow.

Until hybrids start to be developed that meet most individuals needs, people wont buy them.

What needs are you talking about? Space? If people were able to make it in compact or midsized cars in the 80s and 90s, why can't they today?

I think the price of hybrids should come down so more people could afford them.
