A good war against another country always brings us together.

Why aren't we hearing our president, our senators, our congressmen and women, and all the other "public servants" talking about uniting America? They all seem to be silent on possibly the biggest problem we face as a nation.
How do you unite a producer and a thief?

You don't. There is no uniting under your peoples banner. You are socialist/communists and your ideology is the bane of liberty and freedom. There is no "unity" between us, only your demand we subjugate ourselves to you.

Why do we need a leader to say so in order to get along?

Knock off the whole minority religion and orientation I'm special non sense, and move on.

I myself find it hilarious and weak to hide behind or toss a card. We all bleed red when cut. We all have the same privilege to succeed... only thing that makes us unequal is the difference in ambition, drive, what we value.

I value fun/raising hell, and money. Got 1 life to live, not going to **** it away on a boogey man who's offended me, nor blame my failures on some sort of oppressive boogey man...

I lost a bid on a job that would have put 13k in my pocket 2 weeks ago, didn't get to the site on time due to traffic. No. Not due to traffic, due to not hitting the road before the traffic flow became excessive. If i really wanted the job, i should have left the house an hour earlier than I did. You win some, you lose some.

If you want to waste your life playing the victim or setting out to make everything politically correct you are going to be one miserable soul... ignore it or don't.

Who's claiming to be special? People would just like to not be discriminated against because of their race or gender or sexual orientation.

That is laughably absurd. We have an overtly racist criminal justice system. People in minority and poor neighborhoods have less access to opportunity - decent schools, after school programs, etc.

We'll knock it off when the lie you pretend is reality actually becomes reality.

You're right about one thing: we don't need a leader. A leader who unified a country is a dictator. Plain and simple. This is why the 'Trump is a uniter' narrative is terrifying to me; that's way beyond the scope of his responsibility. What we need are leaders. A bipartisan effort by legislators and politicians from multiple states willing to work together, regardless of party lines, in an effort to uphold the values of their constituents.

I was listening to NPR a while back and they got some Trump supporter of the streets to talk about the state of politics. His defense of Trump I found to be, in all honest, ridiculous. But his critique of congress was pretty spot on. To make it quick, he said that we need congressmen who can play pool and get a beer together. We don't have that.

Your critique of the problem I disagree with entirely. Mostly becasue it doesn't actually make sense. This idea that people feeling special is the problem is nonsensical. Your boasting of your values is evidence of you feeling special. There's nothing wrong with that. Being selfish is a problem though.

Take your critique of inequality. You seem to believe the issue is of ambition. And in some cases, that may be true. But I can pretty much gauruntee that the man who just lost his job in a time when jobs in his field are readily available after discovering his wife has cancer, forcing him to take lower paying jobs in a less skilled field just to get by, all while raising his kids on his own since his wife is too sick to be a part of it... he's not gonna take too kindly to being told his issue is not enough ambition.

Now, I doubt you actually believe that. But it is illustrative of another problem; a lack of empathy. Ultimately, people will hear "I'm a member of party X" and will decide in that moment everything that's wrong with them. Take an example form another thread; someone made a comment on progressives that was rather absurd, so I defended against it. I was then asked to defend against another position, apparently because if I support or defend one progressive policy, I must support all of them. This was done in an overly condescending way as if I was caught off guard, when in reality, all that happened was that I was assumed to believe something for no actual reason. And I bring that up becasue YOU were the person who criticized me for it.

We need empathy. We need to want to understand the perspectives of others. Otherwise, we can't have a republic.

Ahh excuses... people in poor neighborhoods.

I lived in one. I've felt hunger pains. I've been down to the last 10 dollars in my pocket. Faced eviction from an apartment. I could cry foul or point the blame else where, that wouldn't get me where I am today...

Not going to convince me on social issues. Why? I ignore them. I don't have time for petty judgements or epitaphs. I don't judge others based upon skin tone orientation etc. I'll bet any money my group of friends back in NY is more diverse than yours. Maybe here in Florida too.

No... IF everyone focused on them self, instead of everyone else around them, there wouldn't be a problem.

Empathy. Have none. Get screwed over a few times like I did... you'll wake up fast and never worry about anyone but yourself and your immediately family. (Hint-going broke doing the "morally right" things was due to being naive and caring for others. Never again)

As for the job scenario... don't restrict yourself to one career. I spent all of my free time in highschool hanging with my friends father's learning their trades... I've never once had to worry about paying bills.

Get the government's hands completely out of the health insurance industry and you won't have the issues we face with person xs sickly wife.

When you choose false security and comfort over liberty you shall recieve neither...

I keep reading about Vets from the Gulf War in Politics that could be a serious candidate.

I keep seeing these Congress delegates on the news and wonder "who the hell are you". I hope they aren't the next candidate.

Looks like the jury is out. In order to be elected, you need to divide America while wearing an American flag pin and preaching unity.

The intelligence of the American voter should never be overestimated.
