Let's not forget about the German federal election. Some say Mrs Merkel will win, but she will lose 5 to 7 percent. By reaching a result comparable to 2009, she will stay chancellor. Many people will reject her. Especially in Europe outside of Germany many people dislike her.
so she needs a scapegoat, that scapegoat is Trump. I have no doubt in my mind that Trump helps her in some weird way.
Trump has his knickers in a knot because Merkel and not he is being called the "leader of the free world". Her ascension to that title is his own doing, but he is too stupid to figure that out. Trump is making a mess of decades of US foreign policy. Russia (and Putin) are now cronies that get back channel off the record access to the White House while the Germans are evil and the enemy.
I have not read where Canada is contemplating retaliation but I have read where Trudeau has taught Trump that the trade thing with Canada is a two way street & that the potential damage to many states' economies if Trump starts a trade war with Canada may be greater to the USA. Trump didn't understand that.
Canada's economy would instantly collapse without the USA. Furthermore, in Toronto, Vancouver and elsewhere, the mother of all housing bubbles is taking place as I type this. Once it pops, and it won't take much for it to happen, Trudeau will go and stick his head in the sand while he tries out how to bail out the international banking cartel which financed it.
