Insanity!.....The House has voted to scrap an Obama administration regulation extending prohibitions on gun ownership to disabled social security recipients judged mentally incapable of managing their own affairs....This will add 75,000 crazy people carrying guns.

I guess the House wants to ensure its members can purchase guns.

Old people whose mental capacity prevents them from handling their own affairs should no longer have guns, but how does that make them crazy monsters?

Labeling them that way isn't going to build you much support.

Edit - Well, I'm glad to see you changed your "monster" reference.

And not labeling them doesn't make them less dangerous, either.

I think we've all agreed that people who lack the mental capacity to run a household should not be allowed to own guns.

How we describe those people on a random internet forum really doesn't change that, does it?

I guess you are against due process?

Taking someone's rights away from them without a day in court where they are proven to be a danger to themselves or others is a very dangerious idea.

Maybe next the government will just deem someone as incompetent and put them in jail without a trial.

If you choose to utilize degrading labels for old people, that's actually helpful to the conservative cause.

Just as most of middle America didn't like being labeled racists, those with older parents dealing with things like dementia or Alzheimer's won't think too much about how you label their parents.

Keep throwing gasoline on your burning home.

It's not just old people. I actually know someone personally -- I'm related to him by marriage -- who was discharged from the marines as a young twenty-something for a mental disorder just a few years ago. He receives social security because he cannot handle his own affairs, and his father manages his finances. He's also a gun nut who does not belong anywhere near a firearm. I've seen him go off, and it's a scary, scary thing.

How many of you have had to take away dad's license and even his car because of the threat he posed? I suppose a gun should be given a higher imperative?
