Bush, unfortunately, doesn't have such a legacy. But he was a nice guy. He was a suit front man for the real powers that be: the neocons in the background, headed by Cheney. He wasn't too bright, so he couldn't make all those decisions or read intelligence briefings himself.
Is this why police officers are fighting for their lives tonight and tomorrow night?

I for one, hated that the President of the USA choose to speak about Americans in a negative way on foreign soil. The man disgraced the White House with drug pushers and Muslim Brotherhood members. Most of his speeches were about being ashamed to be American, more than we have our issues, but room for improvement. President Obama seemed to want to help illegals and refugees to weaken the American life.

I see what Obama does to America, law enforcement, the disadvantaged, the armed forces. So I don't have to listen to him deny it or justify it.
In other words, I see what he does so I don't have to hear what he says. So I tuned him out.
Again, it's a personal choice and open to interpretation. Because I disagree with your interpretation doesn't mean I'm pretending not to understand. I prefer to make up my own mind and not let other's actions make it up for me. Bottom line, we process and view things differently. In my line of work I tend to look at things several ways then make my decision.
I make the personal choice not to tune any president out in order to never become apatheic.
I may pose our discourse to my students in order to view their interpretations. It could make for an interesting class.
I rarely post because I dislike when it gets nasty. I appreciate the civility and thanks for engaging b/c fresh ideas are hard to come by.

President Obama was a Harvard Constitutional Law Professor for a decade who understood the basic laws of a functioning American Democracy whereas Trump & Dubya appealed to the lowest common denominator amongst the American electorate.

Ignoring everything President Obama said during his 8 years displays a horrible ability to communicate with others that have opposing views just like Senator Mitch McConell did when he promised to make President Obama a "One term President" the day he was Elected.

Now you get to listen to President TrumpPutin for the next 4 years spewing propaganda coming from Russia !

If you thought Barack was a "Communist" sympathizer get ready !

I think I am glad I have no neighbors to judge me based on my smoking cigarettes and taking medication for health issues, including pain medication without ever meeting me and talking to me.
I think as a Cig fiend and pain medication user I just crawl back into my dirty little hole and be grateful those I know accept as I am....

I always thought that Obama was a brilliant speaker. He just said the wrong stuff.

Today, hopefully, was the last time my finger had to hit the remote, where he's concerned.

I detested BabyBush, and instantly recognized Obama as being virtually the same person. Too, my mom (whom I hated) was a cigarette-smoking druggie. So, Obama's reported smoking habit, plus his reported druggie days as a youth in Hawaii, were all I needed to know. Cig Fiends and Druggies are not people for whom I have any use. BabyBush also had my unqualified disapproval, from day one, thanks to his (and Laura's) reported history of substance use.

The moment the '08 election results became a sure thing, I began to position myself to gain from the inevitable financial slump. And I moved operations overseas (who didn't?) The 'downturn' I bet on, turned into full-fledged DEPRESSION, which basically put my strategy on steroids. I did well. I saw a string of years when our net worth was doubling annually - even despite (temporary) devaluations of some holdings. For that, I'm grateful. Thanks, 'O'!

Listening to Barbara Bush's Brat used to make me so angry, I'd injure myself, hitting things. I figured I'd give my fists, and my blood pressure, a break. So, for the first four years of the Obama Presidency, I avoided listening to him. Then, for four MORE years, I avoided. It became reflexive.

Today was the first time, ever, that I've watched any of the beginning of any presidency. This is the first time within my memory, that we've had a President of whom I could be proud - whose advent made me happy. Today, crying with JOY, that America, and the WORLD, has been given another chance - a chance none of us even considered possible - that there actually is a future - that our nation will not be destroyed (and, let's face it, destruction's been the intent of "our leaders", over the last 24 years) - that Western Civilization (and the planet) may possibly continue to live, rather than face what we had assumed to be inevitable rapid extinction, I realized that I'd actually managed to avoid hearing anything more than a few of Obama's words.

Am I the only one?

Holy crap, that means you saved like a week in time from dramatic pauses. Good for you!

Maybe.

I am certainly no fan of his, I won't watch him on TV.......but I will listen to the President, whoever he is, on radio.

On TV, well there are lots of reasons why I won't do TV, both from the presenter (whoever it is) to the news media.

Listening to the President, whoever it is, on radio, stripped of mannerisms, I believe is proper for a citizen to do.

^^^^^ All of that babbling, and andywire's post that you were replying to went completely over your head.

andywire's reference to the economy barely growing is a reference to Obama being the first president in U.S. history to not have a year of 3% GDP growth.

andywire's reference to the fake recovery is a nod to ZIRP. --- Do you know what ZIRP is without looking it up on the Internet? I doubt it...otherwise you would have recognized andywire's reference rather than it going over your head.
