Driving 2 mph over the speed limit is also. How many times a day do you break the law?
We have to stop the idea of the police being a tax collector. From the beginning of recorded history the tax collector has been despised.
The choke hold has long been banned also.
I don't disagree with you at all. For the time being however, reselling cigs is still illegal though and that's the only point ive been trying to make.
D.C. replaced the lawyers and FBI agents investigating the case. I haven't seen any reports that New York team 'refused' to prosecute. Apparently, D.C. thought they were taking too long to do the politically correct thing and charge the police officer.
Any charges would still be brought in the state of New York in a federal court. Potato/Potato.
I believe they convened a Grand Jury and refused to prosecute, do you know otherwise. It has been a year and no decision, I wouldn't dismiss prosecution of this cop as politically correct, I would love to see this cops entire history brought out I'm betting this isn't his first mistake.
Dumb laws aren't always worth enforcing. Why even such a law on the books in the first place?
A couple of police catch-alls, when ALL else fails:
- Disturbing the Peace
- Use of an aerosol can in a manner other than directed
- .. you know. Really. "Disturbing the peace." They can cuff you and take you in, for that, even if you weren't.
There are times when they HAVE to save face. And if a uniformed cop and usually a partner say you were "Disturbing the Peace" then that's enough to do it.
I'm not sure what took so long. He should have been charged immediately afterwards.
Good its time they start bieng held accountable for the evil they do!!
