SAN FRANCISCO — Black Lives Matter and other community groups abruptly withdrew on Friday from San Francisco’s LGBT Pride parade because they disapprove of the city increasing police presence at the event.

Parade organizers and San Francisco police announced stepped-up security measures for Sunday’s parade in downtown San Francisco in response to the mass shooting last week that killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando. There will be more cops on patrol, and spectators must pass through metal detectors. Police have advised attendees to prepare for delays at the entrance.

Black Lives Matter Drops Out Of SF Pride Parade After Organizers Increase Police Presence

BLM: what's IS it with you people looking at the mass murders in Orlando, especially since many of the victims were also "Black", I'm guessing Black lives DON'T matter? If I was even a Gay Black dude; I'd be real happy to see lots of cops on hand

BLM is nutty. The Pride Parade will be better off without them.
Perhaps BLM was tucked away in some Safe Space & totally missed the news about the Orlando Massacre.

Shocking that BlackLivesSplatter don't want to be at an event where there is an additional police presence.

Where's Loretta Lynchmob and her "let's just kill them with kindness" message when you need her?

all i can say is, tough. so there are more cops out there to protect gay pride parade attendees. personally if i were to attend such a parade, i wont and never will, i would rather have the extra security there just in case.

As a gay African American male I can see both sides of the situation.

There has to be increased security at large events like Pride. At the same time we have to realize the negative history of law enforcement as referenced in the article.

We have to have better policing to have better relationships.

Have they considered leaving all contraband at home and just going to the parade as upstanding citizens?

We have heard calls from isis for their followers to slaughter gay people so I think most people would be happy with a greater Police presence at the parade. This kind of plays into the old "How do you stop a bad guy with a gun? With a good guy with a gun" saying but lets not talk about guns here. The Police are our first line of protection against those who would hurt us.

So why did the BLM people pull out? Are they afraid of cops with guns or were they planning on disrupting the parade and turning it into a riot?

There is nothing wrong with protesting peacefully yet BLM seems to have a hard time doing that.

We've seen BLM in action...they were planning mischief and got caught out.

The article gave a clear reason why and references for the BLM pulled out

Have there been riots at San Francisco Pride with angry Black people? What's race relations like in the LGBTQ community in the bay area?

In order to have a strong opinion on an issue or a group you must try to bring facts to the table.

Pride parades around the country have been amongst the safest and trouble free gatherings of huge numbers of people, over 100k, for several decades; they are about the only such large gatherings I now go to these days knowing it will be drama free, (well, yeah there is drama lol) - let's just say I am very confident of my safety there.

The massacre in Florida has most large cities around the country increasing their police presence for Pride parades. San Diego will for the first time have metal detectors to enter the Festival grounds (I imagine it would be impossible to implement the same along the parade route). Works for me. The police, first responders and military are always very well received here, whether participating in the parade or facilitating it.

BLM is as disorganized and disjointed group as you can get with many voices within it advocating violence against the police. I, for one, am not at all surprised by their continued foolishness.
