Why would anyone be against this petition? Shouldn't guns make the Republican National Convention the safest place on earth?

I presume there will be armed guards there, unlike schools or other gun-free zones. If so, I can understand banning guns. If not, then they should be allowed. There should always be someone armed as a deterent.

This is putting the Repub party in an awkward situation. Either they allow it and risk a violent confrontation between crazy Trump supporters and all the people he has antagonized, or they disallow it and legitimize what anti-gun folks have been saying all along, that there is no place for carrying guns in public by private citizens. I am really curious what they are going to do. It is a lose-lose situation for the GOP.

25,000+ sign petition to allow guns at Republican National Convention
Maybe Philly will allow guns at the Dem convention. Wait, Philly is a gun free zone so it won't be allowed, petition or no petition. At least it will be nice and safe in Philly.

In the past, it's the democratic conventions that have more violence and angry protestors. In 2004, Boston had way more arrested than in NYC at the RNC. Same thing with Tampa vs Charlotte. If you want to protest, hop a train to the DNC convention. History is forgotten.

Hilarious stuff

Even more hilarious to see that the NRA "declined to comment on the petition"...

It's private property. Gun rights don't apply.

If you've bought booze or cigs in Cuyahoga County since circa 1990 you own the stage the candidates will be standing on.

That actually makes me a part owner. Think I'll go and bring a Panzer tank.

Actually, Philly isn't a gun free zone. Pennsylvania is a must issue state and you are free to carry concealed any where you please except the county court house. In Philadelphia county you can even open carry if you have a firearms permit which again is "must issue."

Why do they need armed guards if they can carry?
