As someone who lives in Europe, I find it perfectly natural that responsible U.S. politicians should want to Europeanize their country. Given the U.S.'s immense wealth, it doesn't have to be behind European nations in quality of life indices, happiness or life expectancy rankings. It has the biggest economy in the world and controls the the leading global currency, so it can, in theory, afford a better life for its people. This certainly requires a readjustment, but there's very little reason that Americans, who work harder and more productively than people anywhere else, should have to do without the social benefits that Europeans take for granted.
People will soon mention the poor management of the refugee crisis to deflect attention away from all the actual good things that European governments have done for their people.
Great, lets pull ALL US troops out of Europe - and everywhere else -, shut down all foreign bases and let them fund their own defense. They can find another way to make up the tens of billions of dollars that will take out of their economies, and find some way to pay the tens of billions more they'll have to pay for their own defense.
If we still just have to have the same size military they can be used to defend OUR borders and the construction battalions can be used to build and repair American infrastructure.
Looking at Europe's history, I wouldn't look to europeanize anything here. How about we let Europe go a century without murdering millions of their own citizens before we lionize the place.
Lest we forget, we had to save that continent from implosion TWICE last century.
I somewhat agree that the USA should adopt some of the socialist ideas of Europe starting with universal health care...we should look at countries such as France and Spain that have excellent care at much less cost than we do as a nation. I also agree that we need to lessen the high cost of college education somehow. I also agree that we need higher taxes on higher incomes and a higher minimum wage to lower our huge and growing income inequality.
However, I don't think we should adopt the whole system that Europeans have that cause the tax rates to be double what they are in the USA and encourage people to not work as some of the Euro systems allow.
