Why are republicans claiming that Obama has already been in office for eight years? It's been less than seven years from January 20th, 2009.

Are they deliberately trying to confuse people over who was president during the 2008 collapse?

Yes, clearly. They've had a multi-pronged propaganda strategy that has been fairly successful at targeting low-information viewers of television news, who have strong pre-existing biases against "government and liberals," actually think the Republicans support free markets, etc.

Goal 1 : convince the public that Obama caused the crisis , rather than respond to it.

Goal 2 : convince the public that Obama conceived of the bailouts. (This one actually failed to take root, and the narrative changed to a different type of lie: "The bailouts were profitable for the government!")

Goal 3 : convince the public that the government forced financial institutions to make bad loans, as opposed to the reality that the private sector banks made them entirely by choice. They hired Edward Pinto and Peter Wallison from the AEI to construct what people refer to as The Big Lie.

The fact that even today, 7 years later, you still see a sizable % of people who believe these things, is really evidence of how effective political propaganda can be.

Who are the Republicans who have said he's been in office for eight years?

And do you really think they're trying to back-date the beginning of his presidency to before the 2008 housing crash that was obviously caused by the Democrats' insistence on giving home loans to poor people who couldn't pay them back (and the Republicans foolishly doing little to stop them)?

That sounds pretty paranoid to me.

At any rate, it's a distinction without a difference.

ACORN Obama versus Obama dealing with what ACORN Obama did in the first place.

The latest repub to do so was a Jeb Bush campaign dude who got on CNN today and told the host that eight years of Obama has been a long time.

Just using obama math where quantitative date is used qualitively in the best traditionof poetic license. Each family will save 2,500$$, the economic projections, jobs production, energy prices wold skyrocket under my energy plan, 500mill$$ lost in solyndra was a good investment and couldn't get the number of states correct. 2010 was the summer of recovery and of course being late for every press conference and media event proves obama's comprehension of things numerical is severly wanting.

More importantly who presided over the historic supression of the economy. And who owned both houses, was in charge of freddie and fannie and headed the ways and means to watch over the tax codes. Called GWB a racist when he challenged the solvency of freddie and fannie.

To suggest the great works of obama could be tarnished by some individual using poetic license with dates is to admit obama's efforts are so meager the slightest ripple would sink his ship of hope and change.

So you want to vote for people who have more than a 15% margin of error in their calendar calculations?

So you want to vote for people that have a 200% error in the cost of Obama care calculations? Typical leftist, all you want to do is concentrate on the meaningless inconsequential while engaging in serial assault on the country.

O has created 10 times as many problems as he faced coming into office.

And it's going to get much worse during his final year.

Maybe his tenure just seems longer.

That's the goal: Demonize the other guy while their guy steals thousands.

15% error would be miraculous especially when we look at obamacare projected costs that were created to make that legislation initially palatable.

15% error in projected costs and delivery of government sponsored infrastructure projects would garner that prognosticator a nobelpeace prize. Otherwise these errors of galactic exponential miscalculations are the norm and accepted. 15% off the mark would be something to celebrate.

No one is conspiratorially trying to fudge time except for some super hero comic book villian and the professor with the delorean.

So when Obama said he visited 57 states his error was just over 15%?
Obama is more than 15% late for media events.
