Having served in the military there is a fighter-pilot attitude that some find repulsive. I've seen the 'dead-bug' episodes and multiple other idiot stuff where they try to out-macho each other. In their defense, that attitude is exactly the attitude required to do their job and win, thus staying alive. Random drug-testing is alive and well and happens often. It keeps airplanes from falling on schools and orphanages. The fact that these guys were bloviating is only in character. I can hardly wait for the PC uproar when the AFIG does not throw them out.
BTW ... training a pilot ain't cheap and for those of you who don't know it, that base is a pilot training (UPT) base.
Pilots need to get out of the 'party hard" mind frame. They are highly trained professionals who are asked to risk their lives and very valuable pieces of equipment. Movies like "Top Gun" appeal to teenie bopers, but the reality of modern air combat is much different. If all they were doing was texting and there is no evidence of drug use, they should be counselled and returned to flight status. Allow their command to work on their maturity.
