This is a terrible and stupid decision from this president. He's taking bad advice from military leaders that he should simply ignore.

We cannot stop the Taliban, nor should we. Afghanistan is THEIR country to rule as they please should they take control of the government there. Propping up a regime in Kabul and training forces is a major waste of time and money.

We are all idiots for believing a politician intends to change anything or has the power to do so.
Every president in our history has totally botched the Middle East. Obama isn't an exception in that regard.

Botching the Middle East = involvement in the Middle East. It's the same thing.

Afghanistan isn't in the Middle East anyway. The point is that we should have never involved ourselves in the M.E. to begin with beyond buying oil at market prices. Afghanistan is a separate issue. We should have never helped them drive out the Soviets, and we never should've sent in massive amounts of troops to drive the Taliban from power. We should've sent nothing more than a Special Ops force to go after Bin Laden. If they couldn't find him, we should've left immediately and searched elsewhere for him.

This extension in Afghanistan is a disaster.

I think the way it works is that the military are told by Obama to find "alternatives" and they keep giving him "advice" and then when they propose something that "sticks" and fits his agenda, being the CIC, he says "that's the ticket!!!"

Just how many high ranking career military members resigned or were fired under Obama? Since there is a wide gap between the Pentagon and Obama, I highly doubt Obama defers to the generals.

In the words of Darth Vader, "now his failure is complete". GITMO is still open and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are still going on, even if Obama claimed that they were over last year and in 2011. You liberals need to accept that it's Obama's fault, not Republicans'.

Still, he's making the right decision on this one. The Taliban and al-Qaeda have grown in Afghanistan, and even ISIS is starting to go in there. They must be eliminated.

Afghanistan is not the Middle East; it's Central Asia.

If Rightwingnuts had their way, the wars would never end, and GITMO would never close.

Nowadays, it seems both the left and the right have lost any kind of internal or external consensus as to what Obama - or any future president FTM - should do about 'engaging terrorists' around the globe.
