Here's a great topic for Controversy. Found it on Yahoo, there's someone complaining about a family's Halloween display, claiming it's too realistic and frightening.
Seriously? This is where Amerika has fallen too?
What do you think? Should people be allowed to display scary decorations? Or should be only allow "hot air" pumpkins as suggested in the vid.
That said, my third grader would have been scared too.
as would my 4th grade daughter. our neighborhood goes all out for halloween ( something i've always loved about the neighborhood ) and every year there have been a few houses, similar to the one in the link, that have freaked out my daughter. the conversation usually goes as follows:
"does this freak you out?"
"yep"
"you know it's fake, right?"
"yep"
"do you want to skip this house?"
"yep"
and that's it, we move on to the next house.
in the link the homeowner ( whom i noticed was interviewed without any previous warning ) specifically said she'd tone down the display if anyone complained..... and no one had complained.
It's a vulgar display, and it certainly would frighten any normal little kid who hasn't already been exposed to R-rated horror films. The neighbors are right to complain.
OMG, It's Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are several neighbors around here that have very scary realistic (maybe unrealistic) yard displays...And the kids love it and want more.
Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?
If you helicopter parents think it's bad, just lock your kids in their padded rooms (need padding, after-all, your kids might bump into a desk corner and get a boo-boo) and protect them from the big bad world
