Our government and its economic statistics hold no more water than Soviet Russia's did. None of these ridiculous fairy tale numbers mean anything to the average American in terms of jobs, benefits, pensions, wages etc...
My thoughts are that I'm still doing well. I even did pretty well during the Carter "malaise" years.
It's all about having a plan, staying focused on your goals, don't focus on things which you can't control (work around, over or through them) and don't sacrifice long term success for short term pleasure.
Self reliance and a sense of responsibility can get you pretty far.
Contrary to the beliefs of the corporate tools and teabaggers on this forum who believe that cutting taxes for the rich (Oh I'm sorry I mean job creators who trickle down their magical jobs everywhere when you cut their taxes down to zero, even though income inequality grew at disastrous rates when we did this in the 1980s), HISTORICALLY the economy actually does better under Democrats as opposed to Republicans. So no, it's not as if buisinesses hate political parties that are economically sane, or that they believe that "Big Government" always get in the way (I don't imagine every business in the US is run be some crazy RWNJ, or Hard Core Milton Friedman like people).
So, to summarize the right wing talking points....
1. It's a lie.
2. It's only because government spending is out of control.
3. It's true but it's only because Republicans are taking over the senate.
4. It's irrelevant.
So it's an irrelevant lie resulting from an out of control government, and we had all better go thank the Republican party for it.
Jobs numbers and GDP both started shrinking in 2006, before Democrats ever took control of congress.
And like wise, Democrats have been in control of the senate since then, but your logic we should have still been in a recession and losig jobs every month.
Unemployment was as low as 4.4% in October and December of 2006.
