but no one is lying when ti comes to lumber....we use a TERM of 2x4...it is approximately 2x4...it is a standard......has been for years....any idiot knows a 2x4 is not exactly 2inches by 4 inches....only an idiot is going to take a term literally...
should we change a TERM, just because a standard of measurement has changed....do you even know how many different measurements and standards are out there
like the guy above said..try plumbing supplies... national standard, british standard , metric
if you pick up a 1/2" bolt...are you thinking the thread is 1/2" or the head is 1/2"....do you know the difference??
LOL
How about a 1/4 inch nipple? Outside diameter or the size of the bore?
What about if you want a grade 8 bolt in stead of a grade 5?
No one is being lied to. That is the point. It is a recognized and accepted standard. It would be lying if they were selling boards under or less than industry standard and calling them 2x4's.
Only in America.
If I go to a store and buy a product - any product - and it's labeled or advertised as being 4 inches in width or length or height, but it's in fact 3.5 inches in that dimension - and there is nothing anywhere indicating it's actually 3.5 inches - then I've been lied to. Period.
Even if I measure it at home after purchasing it the first time and then go back to buy it for a second time, I'm still being lied to. I just now know that I'm being lied to.
People are really stupid, and this proves it. How sad that Lowe's lost to some moron.
The rough cut lumber is 2" x 4." But since we like "finished" lumber, it "finishes" to 1 1/2" x 3 1/2." I thought everybody knew that!
I have this picture in my head of some geek driving away from Lowes in his Prius with 2*4's sticking out the back window and when he gets them home realizes they are not actually 2*4. LOL
It appears to be a receipt for 4 short tons - 8000 pounds - of "Rice".
Rice is the size of the coal, where does clearly indicate to someone that it's a short ton? I'm just a dummy and I don't know the difference between a short ton(store bought 2*4) and a long ton(rough 2*4).
I've seen some really, really stupid crap come out of California, especially their courts and legislature. Horrifically stupid. Utterly, mindblowingly stupid. Stuff that even a Democrat would see as stupid.

why don't you go to a store that sells carpeting... measure the 12' roll..... or measure the 9x12/ or 5x7 bound (means has bound edges) remnants....
they are NOT exactly 7x9.....few inches short..... but they are sold as 7x9...ALWAYS HAVE BEEN
