Raising the minimum wage will definitely increase his market share against pesky competitors like Jane's organic sandwich shop downtown.

I don't see the problem with this.

When I buy gas, I don't interact with cashier - I pay at the pump. And then I pump my own gas.

When I withdraw cash, I don't interact with a bank teller - I use the ATM.

When I buy stuff at Home Depot, I pay for it at the self-checkout kiosk.

When I buy stuff on the internet, it's all by PayPal or credit card.

[it's a natural evolution]

nothing natural about government and its cronies raising the ante to keep the little guys out of the game.

Not a big part of their workforce anyways. When I go to Panera they have one or two cashiers and a dozen other employees making things.

Romney came out in favor of increasing the minimum wage today as well.

Agreed.

[which is why I'm opposed to raising the minimum wage]

And that's what these minimum wage laws do. Big corporations always have a loophole, or an ulterior motive, for such things. These wage hikes are going to squeeze the mom and pop operations. Just more of the attack on main street, under the guise of social justice.

What two parties? I only see one party filled with political elites wearing either red or blue ties. They hate each other during the day, and party with each other at night... but they all stay away from the TEA guys because they're the honest ones. Honesty is poison in DC.

This thread loses steam when you read the article.

"Shaich insists this won't lead to downsizing: Panera will have fewer cashiers but more employees running the food to customers' tables."

There are a lot of things people do at Panera that a kiosk can't replace.
