Being retired, I would not mind paying a bit less in taxes.

There's just something inherently wrong with taxing social security benefits. But that's just my opinion

Hollywood Harvey Weinstein, a Obama supporter now wants a tax break. They want special exemptions from the same tax nightmare that they push on other Californians.

Oh, and while you're at it ... perhaps you can explain why, if Hauser's Law says we "must" collect 18% of GDP, that the U.S. actually collects 27% of GDP? Shouldn't that be a warning sign that your so-called "law" is inaccurate?
Which OMB table are you looking at that says 27%? Federal receipts as percentage of GDP historical was the one I was using, since that's the one the deficit is computed from.

That "social conscience versus antisocial" dichotomy is a legitimate difference of perspective in our society. All government wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars isn't spent on programs that one side or the other supports. Here are a few. Tell me which of these spending items that I think are wasteful, you wholeheartedly support for the benefit of society:

A contractor sold $27 electronic relays to the government’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve for between $484 and $521 apiece.

Most Outrageous Government Waste : The Freeman : Foundation for Economic Education

The Pentagon spent $998,798 shipping two 19-cent washers from South Carolina to Texas and $293,451 sending an 89-cent washer from South Carolina to Florida.

Members of Congress have spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars supplying their offices with popcorn machines, plasma televisions, DVD equipment, ionic air fresheners, camcorders, and signature machines -- plus $24,730 leasing a Lexus, $1,434 on a digital camera, and $84,000 on personalized calendars.

Washington recently spent $1.8 million to help build a private golf course in Atlanta, Georgia.

The refusal of many federal employees to fly coach costs taxpayers $146 million annually in flight upgrades.

Two drafting errors in the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act resulted in a $2 billion taxpayer cost.

Congress gave Alaska Airlines $500,000 to paint a Chinook salmon on a Boeing 737.

Washington spends $60,000 per hour shooting Air Force One photo-ops in front of national landmarks.

$7.8 billion of Iraq aid cannot be accounted for. More than $13 billion in Iraq aid has been classified as wasted or stolen.

It might not be as much of a problem as long as the U.S. maintains a policy of ZIRP. But that necessarily robs the middle class and retirees of net worth and retirement income.

Fed’s zero-interest-rate policy takes toll on savers - SF

I referenced the site, but if you'd like me to be more specific:

Office of Management and Budget - Historical tables and choose Table 1.3—Summary of Receipts, Outlays, and Surpluses or Deficits (-) in Current Dollars, Constant (FY 2009) Dollars, and as Percentages of GDP: 1940–2019

That's what your government uses to tell you about the deficit.

Higher interest rates would create a higher national debt

But as i've said, the national debt doesn't matter much in the first place .. so again, it isn't very important.
