Poor old Jane. She's still taking the blame for the butt kicking we got. I think she has since apologized at least 1000 times since then, and only the geezers still remember her early movies. She is 76 now, approaching the age of Ted Kennedy when he died at 77. Long past her due date for controversy, a rational person would think. I keep wondering how long the mid 20th century is going to stick around, glued to geezer minds. I guess 50 years still isn't long enough.
She was the equivalent of the Sarah Palin is these days, but her radical flirtation didn't last nearly as long as Palin's has.
Just goes to show a beautiful lady who gets in over her head is never forgotten for past transgressions, no matter how long the years go by. Sarah would be wise to take a hint from Jane- Fonda's best days lay ahead of her after her divorce. Maybe Sarah's are too, it she handles things the smart way.
I don't think it was so much about her beauty or getting in over her head. It was her arrogance. Also her disregard for the lives of American troops in a situation when she couldn't have possibly known very much about what was going on. I was 100% against that war but I was appalled when a silly movie star thought she could go without permission to a war zone and negotiate. I don't hate her, I just lost respect for her. How about some bimbo movie star today taking it upon themselves to travel to Afghanistan to negotiate the war.

I don't think it was arrogance as much as ignorance. Either way, I agree with you, and did, back when I was serving in the military at the time she did it.
Even so, I believe every person has the right to act as their conscience dictates, even if the dictate is a stupid gesture.
I have no problem separating any artist's life from his work. I never liked John Wayne's politics, but they never stopped me from being a big fan of his movies. The same is true with Jane, and with Robert Duval, Matt Damon, Charleton Heston, and many others. Most of them have done or said something I thought was stupid, too, at some time or other.
Comparing Jane Fonda to Hitler, now there's a rather ridiculous analogy, anyone else on that list.
Michelle Obama chose her because she is in great shape for her age, the drama queens are out in full force. Same as when they gave her a 2 minute part in a recent movie, oh the horror over 40 years later and still going strong.
Where is the hatred for McNamara, presidents, congress that allowed 50,000 soldiers to die in a losing cause, her actions pale by comparison but go on with your revenge.
Jane Fonda is in excellent shape because of money! It's called facelifts, botax, and private trainers plus a nutritionist, oh and I forgot the weight management. She doesn't look good on her own, she has a ton of help.

Dennis Rodman comes to mind but no on takes him seriously and will never mistake him for being a Mensa, Jan Fonda was intelligent and capable even though this was a very bad decision. I don't expect that we will see a Rodman thread decades from now.
Some actors and politicians just have a way of commanding attention, doesn't mean it's always deserved.
Would love to see Lady Gaga in Afghanistan negotiating.
Where in the TOS does it say I must explain my posts to you. What I am, what I know, and whom I know is none of your business.
In other words, you have no actual knowledge on the subject but just knee jerk react to agree with those that do your thinking for you. And this while demanding that others answer your questions and allegations.
However, the second story — the one surrounding Col. Larry Carrigan and Col. Jerry Driscoll — was “bogus; it just never happened.” I spoke with Col. Driscoll on the phone earlier this week and he confirmed to me that he had never even been given the opportunity to meet Fonda, let alone actually coming face-to-face with her while a POW.

I have seen quotes, from I believe Carrigan, asking people to stop spreading the false story because he is tired of responding to media inquires about it.
Which does not excuse the poster that I responded to.
Additionally, the two that you cited were not the only POW's at the time and may have modified their stories due to media pressure. In fact, you don't have any personal proof on the subject, let alone the credentials to speak as an authority on it.
And HOW would we know what the more than 58,000 dead thought and did? Or should they just be forgotten while the people who really betrayed them and the country, LBJ, McNamara, Nixon et al get a pass while people whine about Jane Fonda?
Got your new obamabot communist card yet? Or do they tell you that you have further denials to make to earn it?
