My impression has been that this program has helped to lower the crime rate in NYC .... is that correct?
I remember when crime and murder in NY City was a lot worse than the Chicago of today.
There is no evidence that it had any influence on crime rate. The crime rate has been dropping across the Country for the last couple of decades. The NY crime rate going down could just as easily be due to my hair getting grayer as stop & frisk.

The fact that this policy which has been carried out in an overtly racist manner for years is still around in this nation's largest city says all one needs to understand about American society when it comes to how it sees and treats people who aren't white.

There is no way that in this nation we would ever allow young white men to all just be viewed or treated like criminals for the criminal behavior of other white men.

As a society we would never accept the premise that in order to stop or lower crime, all young white men would just have to accept second class citizenship and a violation of their civil rights by the police and government.

Yet, even now, when the very racist nature of stop and frisk and how it was applied is known, people still support it.

It is one thing to support a thing when you don't know the extent of that thing, but to support it after you know the clearly indiscriminate and discriminatory manner that this stop and frisk was carried out, is to support racism.

You feel sorry for bullies and thugs harassing people who have committed no crime? And you want them to get a raise for doing so? Hope you hid well whatever you're smoking because the cops would love to stop and frisk you to find it.

So what if they were? Inconvenient truth time- most gang members happen to be black or hispanic. This is who the NYPD were targeting because they're the ones who terrorize neighborhoods.

So when blacks and hispanics complain that cops "don't do nothing" to protect them from gangs, what exactly are the cops supposed to do if not stop-and-frisk?

Cops are damned if they do, damned if they don't.
