Seriously, what in the !*$# was going on there?

That charade they called a prosecution showed where they were coming from last night with that bizarre press conference.

Are you making excuses for the verdict ?

They had no evidence to work with. Only emotion and that does not convict.

I thought, along with the Sanford lead investigator, that the prosecution had a reasonable chance of getting a manslaughter conviction, based on Zimmerman's recklessness and exagerations. But, they chose to ignore that avenue, preferring to pursue a murder charge, which was ridiculous from the start.

Well they didn't have very much to work with, hardly any evidence. I don't even know if they could have gotten an involuntary manslaughter conviction, but I sure as heck would have gone for that instead. But yes, they did look like idiots at the press conference. Since they hid evidence from the defense, I was sorta thinking they were dirty. Maybe not though, maybe they are just stupid. Who knows, I'm just glad the freak show is over.

They reminded me a little of Marcia Clark and Chris Darden with the OJ case. Not as bad though since they didn't have the same level of evidence that the OJ prosecution had at its disposal.

Oh, absolutely not. We may never know what went on in deliberations. For all we know there might have been 5 people that had their minds made up from the get go. I suspect that there was at least one hold out. I envision a scenario where some people were conceiving manslaughter to mean whatever they wanted it to mean in order to find the creep not guilty...and maybe the holdout was in contention with them, trying to adhere to her understanding of how manslaughter was defined in the instruction. Maybe the others applied strong pressure to dissuade that person from submitting the more specific question to the judge.

Who knows, maybe they were all grappling, trying to do the right thing, got hung up by the technical aspects of manslaughter, tried to inform themselves, and the court didn't help them, leaving them with no other recourse.

So I absolutely make no excuse for the verdict. What I am saying is that a failure of a jury to make a just decision does not excuse the prosecution for what they did wrong, independent of that verdict. I am simply deeply suspicious of the prosecution. What could be taken from that little smiley speech the lead prosecutor gave is 'so the civil rights agitators just wanted the truth to come out...so we made sure that the truth came out ...never said we would conduct a prosecution that would get what you people think is justice...smile, smile, thanks and praise to the jury.

Lawyers aside, the ENTIRE investigation was a mess. The statements he made to police the night the incident are public record. In one of them, he admitted to being treated for ADHA with medication. In most cases in adults that have that diagnosis, amphetamines are used for treatment...Adderall, ect..Why wasn't his urine or blood taken? ESPECIALLY with the rate of prescription drug abuse..I truly believe he could have been abusing his meds and was EXTREMELY paranoid. Which is not an excuse but DEFINITELY something that should have NOT been overlooked. And he got caught in his own inconsistencies . It wasn't hard evidence but enough circumstances to make a decent argument. Probably the worse lack of effort by a prosecution of a murder case in history. They literally DIDN'T try..It really wasn't enough to convict him of the charges he was facing but the defense got a freebie..

The D.A is a political office, let's not pretend that the D.A is only concerned about upholding justice.
