"Race-conscious policies have transformed our schools and workplaces. Diversity is a value cherished by many. Likewise, the Voting Rights Act has given the South new and very different politics. But affirmative action, in Roberts' view, has become discrimination against whites.
The country may be about to discover how America looks in the way that the chief justice wants to reshape it."
IMHO AA does more harm than good because then it's questioned how you got where you are..on your own skill/knowledge or with a little help from AA. You end up always having to prove yourself.
I speak from experience as a female engineer in a big multi-national that touted "diversity" every chance they got.
I knew some that jumped on the bandwagon and did very well financially with raises and promotions.
Even better than a female engineer is a minority female engineer.
AA is basically a distraction from the persistent levels of inequality that the US has created. For example, it's common to hear white people whine about how they're discriminated against in employment, when all available data points to the exact opposite - to the point where white ex-felons are preferred over black men with clean records. Or, as another example, the current woman blaming race for her not being admitted to U of Texas, when the simple fact is that she simply wasn't very qualified to begin with, and would not have been admitted in any case.
AA, oh you mean like Disneyland, where the handicapped get to go to the head of the line?
ah, you get to pitch because your dad is the team's sponsor....if you don't perform it makes for a difficult situation. AA just switches dads.
The feds are so concerned people using food stamps would be embarassed but no concern over a person hired becuase of social justice rather than qualifications and attitude.....and in the course of events, people are hired and don't work out...you get rid of them...no chance to trim the herd when AA is involved. Bad for business.
If you have five WGs interviewing for a job, all with impeccable qualifications, four will be rejected. Now thow in a protected species and if not chosen, evidence of qualification will be used as a proof of bias hiring.
More palatable if clearly marketed as social justice rather than introducing 'diversity'...and that steals the dignity and respect away from an otherwise qulaified prospective employee.
I laugh when hiring guideline articles appear in a magazine or newspaper as the hiring managers are each unique and bring their own personal criteria into play. Any business concerned with financial success will evaluate their hiring managers decisions and make corrections.
The feds become a hiring manager with poor judgement who on occassion gets it right through no skill of their own. That hiring manager needs to be replaced.
Which is why AA is wrong when anyone can get it by virtue of having a vagina, regardless of race. The descendants of slaveowners, Nazis, and Klan members are eligible for AA, while poor white males are not. Paris Hilton is eligible for AA, as are other wealthy white women.
It not only creates racial resentment, but also creates sexism.
AA should only be given on the basis of income, not on the basis of race or ethnicity, and definitely not on the basis of gender.

^^^^this pretty much sums it up. not to mention many states no longer have aa in hiring. I honestly can't tell you what all the whining is about. just another thing to blame on black people. when they ended aa in hiring in California, the face of aa were black people even though more Hispanics and women had benefitted from these programs. the truth of the matter is that at the time you could have given every non felon adult black person in California a job and still had plenty left over for everyone else. California is about 7% black, probably less than that.
