-9/11 would have still happened under president Gore
-we would not have gone in Iraq but we still would have gone into Afghanistan.
-without the Iraq war, the U.S. wouldn't be in so much debt, however Saddam Hussein would still be alive and in power.
-the economy would still be on a decline, just not as bad as it was under Bush
-the economic meltdown of 2008 would not have taken place and Unemployment wouldn't be a high as it is today.
-with 16 years of a Clinton/Gore administration, people would be tired of anyone politically related to the Clintons. Hillary Clinton would not have run for president in 2008.
-a republican, either John McCain or Jeb Bush would have been elected in 2008. Sarah Palin would not have been selected as John McCain's running mate.
-Barack Obama would not have run for president and wouldn't be president today. He would still be a senator representing Illinois. Obama just wouldn't have been elected without a terrible economy and 16 years of a democratic president. So for people who absolutely hate Obama, maybe you should have been rooting for Al Gore in 2000
cause and effect determines how history unfolds.

I'll bite on that.
9/11 might have happened or might not. Rice admitted that they didn't follow through on plans from the Clinton administration in terms of anti-terrorism. She said they weren't given a plan, but just a "list of actionable items". There was plenty of chatter about something major happening pre-9/11 and lots of information out there. It might have, it might not have. There WAS information in the USS Cole investigation that could have fished out the plot
-we would not have gone in Iraq but we still would have gone into Afghanistan.
-without the Iraq war, the U.S. wouldn't be in so much debt, however Saddam Hussein would still be alive and in power and would be a counterbalance to Iran
- Some decent laws would have been passed in 2001-2005 that weren't related to just social issues. R and D would have butted heads but something would have gotten done. Less wasteful spending since R would have kept D in check instead of R's racing R's to spend more
- Bush type tax cuts would not have been passed. Deficits and debt would be a lot lower. This would have lessened the bubble in the economy heading in to 2008 though GDP growth would have been less due to less borrowing
-the economic meltdown of 2008 would have taken place though it wouldn't have been as bad as it was mostly due to a smaller bubble and a stronger tax base
- After 4 years, Gore would lose to Romney. We'd have 4 years of stupid social related policies. Romney would win re-election over Obama or Clinton. With Obama winning in 2012
