If he's such a liberal, then why, pray tell, is he sending ricin letters to the liberal Messiah?
I see this line of thinking on this board quite often. Being affiliated with something does not mean that one has to fall-in-line wholesale. People often think everything is either "All or Nothing" when it comes to these kinds of things. Liberal does not automatically equate with Democrat, anyway. I am very much liberal, but you will be hard pressed to find me agreeing too much with Obama nor accurately being described by the caricatures of liberals offered up by those who claim to detest them so much. This isn't an inherent contradiction like some may think it is. If I offered up:
"If he's such a liberal, then why, pray tell, is he not supporting gun control"
That is not a contradiction. You can be liberal and support guns. Supporting guns does not make you a Republican, nor does it even mean you support guns in the same manner as the majority of Republicans on this board do. It is time for the posters on this board to stop seeing everything in "black and white" and false dichotomies. There is a spectrum of beliefs and value, and not two pre-determined set of values that one automatically subscribes to based on what their popular party is pushing at the moment.
Perhaps this post was some baiting technique and not entirely genuine, but I see these types of questions and statements thrown around in a serious manner quite frequently on this board and in daily life.
Dutschke has twice run for public office in Northeast Mississippi. In 2007, he unsuccessfully challenged Democratic incumbent Steve Holland for a seat in the state House of Representatives as a Republican. In 2008, he lost a bid for Lee County election commissioner as a Democrat.
Dustchke’s first try at politics was in 2007, when he ran for a seat in the state House of Representatives and lost handily to Democrat Steve Holland. As a Republican running against a Republican in a heavily Democratic district
He has run for office as BOTH a republican AND a democrat.
He is a lifelong Republican. The former governor of Florida is a lifelong Republican too, but ran as an independent, because he has no chance of winning running as a Republican, but it does not change the fact that he is a lifelong Republican.
