I've been to the dentists when I was in college, and I have seen people would be holding their teeth in so cleanings wouldn't knock it out because dentists resisted extraction as a last resort. Same with my work with the indigent.

Any trained dentists can spot a good or bad tooth in an instant.

I think we should wait for more information, but it sounds like there was no cause to do it from preliminary info.
There are unscrupulous folks in every line of work. I saw a story a few years ago on just such dentists who were doing root canals on baby teeth. There are surgeons who recommend surgery when it is unnecessary. I would agree that these folks are probably rare, but it certainly occurs and this particular one probably thought, given the limitations of this patient, that he could get away with it.

You find unscrupulous people even when money is not involved. I have seen people on this site argue that life does not begin with conception and that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas.

Hey, that reminds me...you never got back to me in explaining what type of life sperm is after conceding that, yes, it is alive, but, no, it isn't human. Is it canine? Feline? Reptilian?
