Without any prior knowledge of the US Budget; how much would you assume our budget was? (military, school)

I was walking down the street today and saw a USPS truck and couldn't help but to look around my environment. If you look at US infrastructure, the amount of schools, and etc. without factoring in things such as the military, welfare programs, etc (pretty much anything that is behind the scenes, and isn't seen daily) the budget doesn't seem so large. From what I see on a daily basis in the DC metro area, and if I were ignorant to how large and complex the US Budget was; I'd assume the budget was about $1.5 trillion annually not close to $4 billion.
So if you don't understand the question, I'm just wondering of you didn't know the US Buget (hypothetically of course), what would you think it was based on what you've seen? A person who lives in a rural area could safely assume if they never leave the area, that the budget is probably far smaller than what it really is.
