You don't have to believe in an Illuminati or similar evil cabal to think that a few people more or less run the world.
Money is power, you wanna find the people that have disproportionate influence look at the wealthiest, I hardly believe they're all collaborating and plotting to create some sort of One World government but they have perpetrated some shady actions, mostly independently though.

Why do you assume that a single collaboration runs the world? Likely, there are too many cultural, ideological, and ego issues for a group of powerful people to collaborate in such a way.
One would think but then the very people accused of it talk openly about it.

Pulling it off is different story. But powerful people are trying.
You make it sound like there are people alive today that would conspire together in the pursuit of wealth, power and control over others, even to their detriment.
Unfortunately, Too bad it is true.
On a small scale, you have many small business's conspiring to outdo their competitors via profit and control.
On a medium scale, you have corporations with leaders on each other boards conspiring to crush the little guy via regulations by lobbying the government.
On the large scale, you have multinational corporations and finance using the government via control to not only control the local economies in this country but the world economy as well based on foreign policy.
I here it again and again that companies from small to large are not in the business for altruistic purposes but for profit and self gain, so someone please explain to me why they would not also use government control to maximize their self gain?
Do you think the Bilderberg Meetings are all about the best interest of the nation and globe?
No, they are looking out for each other and those in high positions.
The people at the top look at the world like any business.
People like any other material are resources to take advantage of and no consideration is given to their plight or emotional status when material wealth and power are in question.
Resource allocation and population control is of utmost importance at this point in time as we head further into the future.
