Why should they, since USSR, North Korea, Albania, or Cuba were never "liberal".

Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis) is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas such as:

- free and fair elections,
- civil rights,
- freedom of the press,
- freedom of religion,
- free trade,
- private property.

USSR, North Korea, Albania, or Cuba did NOT support any of the above.

It is amazing people spend their days on CD forum attacking "liberalism", and yet they do not have the faintest idea what it even is ().

Probably gets a check here now from our "communist" government.

The left needs a strong centralized government to better redistribute private property.
There is another reason Russians tend to align with Republicans. As a group, they are among the most racist people on the damn planet.

It is a strange thing that liberals if liberal by defininition, who often also call themselves progressives often take the side of regulation like gun control, regulation of what someone drives, eats, drinks, lives in, and what they can use or do with their land.

Go to the democratic underground and you see certain amounts users with Che or hammer & sickle avatars

North Korea calls itself the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" but lol...obviously the name is not what it means....

The eastern European immigrants I know, and have known many over the years, come here to work and start businesses, not take handouts. I'm sure there are many exceptions but as a whole they tend to be productive and seek success. I've seen amazing success stories even in bad economic times, just through hard work and determination (and smarts too). This type of mentality would align more with fiscal conservative values rather than liberal at this point in time. They don't want to go back to having no route to achieving their goals of being financially independent and having the government looking over their shoulder to make sure they cannot do it.

And conservatives tell people which herbs are acceptable, and which are not, when a woman should have a baby, and who people can and cannot marry. Don't get me wrong, I agree with much of those things, but I am just saying that when it comes to telling people what they can and can't do, they are no better than liberals. Feeling one way other the other on things on your list, or mine does not make a person any more or less communist. As a matter of fact, they have nothing to do with it.
