You have to pay for the weapons and training and by adding to their duties or asking them/telling them they have to put themselves in harms way as opposed to making it a conscious decision I am sure hazard pay will be required as well. That or a raise. Don't forget about getting it approved by the teacher's unions as well as the parents, school board etc.
Nothing is free.
They are already in harms way.
Allowing the teachers to be armed makes the risk of harm somewhat smaller.
Are you really that dense? Not that the child has National Security information but using the child of the President to either gain information, release a captive, gain political advantages etc from the POTUS themselves.
Wow. The fact I had to spell that out really blows my mind.
First, its against our policies to negotiate with terrorists so it doesnt matter whos kid gets taken. Second, do u think befor you type or do u just throw **** at the wall to see what sticks?

I'm not sure if there is data to promote the idea you maintain, that having a loaded gun in a classroom at all times is necessarily a less dangerous situation.
Please do not assume that this board is only a collective of idiots, zombies.
o please dont get me wrong ive read the entire thing and i see some very astute persons its just that handfull that makes me smile not trying to troll trying to comprehend the ignorance of those.
Am I really that dense? Only I know the answer to that but you did step in it. Not sure it has anything to do with your mind.
But I have been suggesting that schools open their cafeterias to law enforcement as a place for coffee breaks. Heck, feed 'em school lunches. Just have a steady stream of cops arriving at and leaving the school. Have a couple of police cars parked outside the school throughout the day.
The cops don't have to be authoritative. Just alert and present. And heck, we've got a President who built a career on being Present.
Stepped in what? Having to explain a pretty simple concept to a random stranger on a political forum?
If the Police forces have the manpower to do so then it sounds like a good idea as a deterrent.
Tell that to the families of 26 people who were at a school in Newtown, CT on 12/14/12.
Again. Logic and critical thinking evades people like you.
If I'm gunned down at the beach because a madman decides to go on a rampage, it will not follow that all beaches should then have armed guards patrolling to protect the beachgoing public.
Since gun violence can happen anywhere and does happen everywhere, from clothing stores to doctor's offices, city streets to subways, restaurants to public busses, we cannot have armed guards everywhere in this country. So, you divert and utilize resources where they are NEEDED based on LIKELIHOOD of victimization and TARGET potential for political, terrorist and security vulnerability purposes.
Maybe the United States should pay for an armed guard outside of every private home in America, to deter home invasions which take the lives of more people each year than the 26 killed at Newtown.

Just have a steady stream of cops arriving at and leaving the school. Have a couple of police cars parked outside the school throughout the day. Use the opportunity for community outreach. Socialize law enforcement with the students. Build an active line of communication and trust. The taxes are paid so put 'em to good use.

I love this idea, Give back to the heros who deserve it and who knows that will probably drop all school fightings and school drug issues, not to mention the more serious issues.

but as long as the weapon is controlled it is safe once the weapon falls in the hands of a bad person its intent than reflects its user

Unless/until a teacher goes crazy and shoots up the class. Or until a faculty dispute erupts into violence and some disgruntled teacher turns a gun on a co-worker. Or until a teacher is fired and decides to take it out on everyone else.
Those scenarios are more likely than another random Adam Lanza walking into an elementary school.
