Has anyone noticed how the teen/young adult generation of today, let's say people from between 1980 and 1999 have pretty much no pride for their generation? It seems like in a lot of ways, we've grown old faster than any generation prior to us. I'm only 22 and most people my age seem very out of touch with today's pop culture. There's an admiration of older generations and a tearing down of the current generation that seems pretty much ubiquitous, it's pretty much what's spawned the Hipster subculture, people who wish they were born in an earlier time.

I admit I feel kinda the same way. I wish I could have grown up in a time before technology and consumerism sterilized, genericized and suck the fun and creativity out of everything. I don't feel like having iphones or HDTV comes anywhere close to compensating for the experience of growing up in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I think every generation has felt this way in one way or another.

BS

We're more open minded. We have better race relations compared to past generations.

Baby boomers were racist, sexist, and xenophobic.

Oh? So how do you explain how we got where we are now?

They were? The hippie generation was? I think today's generation might be a bit less racist/sexist/xenophobic but that doesn't count for much if your prejudice was simply swapped for misanthropy.

A lot of 80s/90s born people do wish they lived in more exciting, fresh, raw times. But they do recognize the openness of their generation and value that a lot.

I think if anything, they're the generation that's become the most disillusioned with their society when coming of age. And for good reason.

It is a generation of Denial, Devisiveness, Disillusion, and Dependancy,
I give them a "D" grade, but give an "F" to their parents for believing two things:

1) Raising children like 'mini-me's'.
2) believing that giving their little annointed ones hip sounding names would mean they'd grow up just as unigue and cool. ie: Bryson, Colt, Cody, or Bryn, Lateasha, Crystallynn.
