As I see it, the Republicans have a lot of ideological diversity within the party. I have broken the groups down. See if you agree with the groups under the Republican Umbrella.
1. Fundis (Christian Fundamentalist Taliban) - Religious Right, interventionalist, Israel at all costs, authoritarian govt. control of morals.
2. Paulies (Libertarians) - Shift from income tax to sales tax, They are the opposite of Fundis on interventionalist policy, and want a decentralized govt.
3. Teabaggers -could be a mixture of fundis and Paulies - but what makes them unique is that they are against all entitlement programs except the ones that they receive. - perception is that made of predominantly old white people on social security and medicare.
4. Racists - Not all Republicans are racists. Certainly, Fundies and Paulies are not very likely to be racist. However, there are a group of Republicans who are in the party because they don't want to go to the party that all of the black people are going to.
5. NeoCons - New conservatives (left the Democratic party). They like big govt. like the fundis; however they are Warhawks, pro israel, and are not that interested in Christian policies. Neocons and Paulies don't play well together.
6. 1% ers. All 1%ers are not in the Republican party; however, the ones that are -are there because they want to pay less taxes and that is the primary reason. They bankroll the party and they provide the tent. Their job is to try to bring all of the subgroups under the tent.
That is my opinion of the big tent republican groups.
Is this some sort of liberal therapy? Is this what you folks sit around and do? Just wondering what you folks do while others, mostly republicans, are out working.

Looks more like a sewage lagoon than a tent, IMHO...
7. Gunslinger, NRA, 2nd Amendment crowd. Spans a broad spectrum of social and economic classes.
Well NRA and 2nd Amendment crowd is not limited to the Republican party. There are many who share this view in the democratic party. However, tea baggers seem to be the most vocal group on 2nd amendment.
This is generally true if you subscribe to the theory that minorities themselves can't be racist or bigoted towards others.
For example, black males commit hate crimes against gays at a rate about 5x higher than anybody else.
Heck, even the Hillary supporters were called racist in 2008.
So yeah, there are probably more WASP racists in the republican party but that's a somewhat narrowly convenient definition.
You can't have very many black racists in the Republican party because there are not that many black people in the Republican party. I thought this was a well known fact and did not need to be explained. Although I am sure that there are black people who hate black people in the Republican party. There just are not enough of them to be a significant factor.
This is a very biased thread. Sure, you will find those 6 groups in the republican party, but they are not all. What about moderates? What about fiscal conservatives? What about tea party people who are not old. 60% of self described tea party members are below 55 years.
I have another group for you for the democratic party
1. Very ideological liberals who spends most of their day talking about how bad they think republicans are. Have no problems with making up facts, or letting their political affiliation affect their analysis. Therefore talk BS most of the time.
