Doubtfull. This President, and his Secretary of State have been apologizing for America for nearly four years now. More if you take into account his 2008 campaign.

We need a leader that will stand up for America, and that man is Mitt Romney.

Yes, again during the GWB presidency there were NUMEROUS embassy attacks and nobody, not the media, not Democrats in elected positions, and certainly not conservatives were treating those attacks as a crisis. Now all of a sudden the standard has shifted, we have a very, very bad thing happen and now all that President has accomplished is in doubt.

It is amazing to me the craven nature of conservatives. Again GWB was just President there were NUMEROUS attacks on US embassies and consulates during his Presidency, I can't think of one of those incidents getting this type of attention.

You couldn't be more wrong.

His immediate predecessor reacted to Islamic fanaticism by attempting to impose democracy on Afghanistan and Iraq by military force and without asking their permission. It was a direct repudiation of our long-standing policy of helping those striving for a democratic government on their own instead of doing it for them. Obama's reaction to the spontaneous revolts against Arab dictators is more in line with our traditional foreign policy objectives and our American values of self-determination.

Secondly, the Obama administration has radically shifted the focus of our entire foreign policy from the Middle East to containing China, especially in the western Pacific. Instead of focusing entirely on Israel and propping up the House of Saud, Obama correctly sees the looming threat of Chinese expansionism and has created the equivalent of Harry Truman's containment foreign strategy in relation to the Soviet Union, a policy which succeeding administrations held to until the Soviet Union imploded.

Mitt Romney would overthrow all of that and return us to the "good ol' days" of George Bush's foreign policies.

The security was able to repeal the attack, thank goodness. Are you happy about that?

Unbelieveable. Americans are in peril and even killed overseas from attacks, and folks in this thread are throwing jabs and sarcasm at Mitt Romney.

WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT????

Romney made some, I believe, selfish remarks. If you read the transcripts of what he said, the first half of his speech was direct and forthright. I had no problems with it. Then, it turned in to a political club. If Romney wanted to really hurt the President, he'd have said something akin to: "Mr. President. You are in charge. How are we going to respond to a coordinated attack on our citizens?"

That would highlight the President's impotence. Instead, he came off as partisan rather than compassionate. Not the best move.

The problem the US has now is that there's really not that many things it can effectively do:

1) The US can invade in retaliation. Thousands, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of innocent people die. More people hate the US in the middle east. Soldiers die. Maybe the US finds those responsible or maybe it doesn't.

2) The US can pull out entirely - In this case, extremists realize that if the US is in the middle east, simply murder a few and they'll pull out. US Citizens will be targeted.

3) The US can do nothing - Anti-American sentiment is emboldened as they realize there will be no consequences to their attacks.

4) Send in special forces to eliminate the culprits - You create martyrs. Family members now feel justified in going after the US. Perhaps more attacks take place later on.

5) Send in special forces to brutally eliminate the culprits, their families and friends - This was how President Putin dealt with his own version of this. It worked. The US will shock the world and may have to do this a few more times before the world gets the message. However, in this case the US loses its soul and everything that makes it great.

There aren't a lot of great options here. Unfortunately, it's been politicized by both sides of the aisle. Frankly, I hope the President has the wisdom to come up with a solution I haven't thought of.

Obama backed these Islamists taking over. He was all for the Muslim Brotherhood. He enabled this.

There are no facts being posted. US embassies in the Middle East get attacked all the time. This is not uncommon. Yet, there was not this panic from conservatives and this rush to condemn the President on situations that are JUST developing and that might be over very soon.

Yet, conservatives are making WILD connections that don't make any real sense. Again, when GWB was President there were NUMEROUS attacks on US embassies and consulates, what did you say when those attacks occurred, did you blame and attack GWB or did you at least give him a chance to respond to the situation before saying he had failed.

Again the craven nature of conservatives is amazing to me.
