Stuff like that isn't really new. I can remember similar stories being banded about when Clinton was president.
True, the loons never tire of spreading nonsense. What's disappointing is that so few stand up to denounce it. This is how we've arrived where we are in our political system.
Funny. I also heard some ridiculous left-wing conspiracy on the radio this morning about Romney not paying taxes for 10 years. And shutter, the gullible Obama supporters lap it up.
Local talk show host at first tries to explain that the IRS would be all over Romney likes flies on a fresh steaming pile of dog crap but then gives up trying to explain, thus allowing it to spread with the tin-foil crowd.
There are people who just enjoy 'making up stuff'.
I recall listening to Rush on the day Clinton was leaving office and George Bush entering. Some idiot called Rush and claimed that he (the caller) was in Washington D.C., and that Clinton had 'called out the tanks' and imposed martial law. The caller swore he was 'looking at the tanks' as he spoke.
Rush, of course, gently chuckled and told the caller it was a bit early in the morning to indulge in adult beverages, and then hung up and moved on.
No doubt, that caller is somewhere here on CD, seeking attention for making up more idiotic things.

Yep, no doubt there is loony stuff on both sides. What's differs is the sheer volume. What would you say is the percentage of right-wing to left-wing talk shows on the AM dial? 80-20? Maybe 90-10? What about on the internet? What is the ratio of right-wing nut blogs to left-wing nut blogs? Not as lopsided as AM talk, but still tilted one way. Thus, the nonsense on the right is more prolific.

I suspect many of these conspiracy theories start with some well-educated right-winger, who creates them knowing that the yokels will buy it and spread the nonsense. It's probably calculated.
