Interesting to see how views in Canada are changing on health care.
Quote:
In its poll, Ipsos Reid asked Canadians which system of funding they primarily support when given the option between a for-profit model, a not-for-profit model and a mixed model of both profit and non-profit.
It found that 53 per cent preferred the mixed model.
When asked to what extent they'd support or oppose the idea of Canadians being allowed to buy private health insurance for all forms of medically-necessary treatment that could then be obtained outside of the current system, including cancer care and heart surgery, 76 per cent supported the idea.
Interesting only in how a right wing media sponsored poll taken by a right wing sponsored polling agency came to a right wing desired result. Geee! I'm so surprised.

Which Canadian polling company would you have suggested do the poll instead? Ipsos Reid from what I read is Canada's largest market research and polling company.
A polling company that would call people up and pose questions in such a manner as to be impartial perhaps; instead of posing a question such as "if you were delayed for a necessary medical procedure by your present system and could accelerate that process by opting to pay out of pocket for a private .......?" All premised on inducing that fear quotient and suggesting only one alternative to alleviating it.
I'm suggesting any poll requested AND paid for to ask the premised questions on behalf of any News Agency is biased regardless of who they've paid to perform it or can you not see that? Ipso Reid being the largest is simply the best choice to LEND the poll false legitimacy.
Were Canadians lobbying their MP's and MMP's in numbers greater than the 1000 sample polled AND those Canadians were proposing a willingness to introduce a two tier system then I'd believe "More Canadians are open to the particular health care choices mentioned by the polling service".
With these wait times being a long time issue with the Canadian system it shouldn't be a surprised that a certain number of Canadians would be open to a mixed system that included more private car options as a way to reduce or prevent waiting lists. I think too many Canadians equate expanding private care options with becoming more like the U.S system. But various universal systems in Europe also have mixed health care approaches that Canadians could look to instead of the U.S system.
It is common for just about every country with single-payer healthcare to have the option for people to take extra insurance - if you want "alternative" medicine as part of your plan, better creature comforts in a private hospital setting, more flexibility in appointments, that kind of thing.
